Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State said on Thursday that the state would soon make a presentation to the Federal Government on how to exploit the crude oil he says has been discovered in commercial quantity in the state.
The governor spoke to State House Correspondents in the course of the National Economic Council meeting presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Mr. Wamakko, who confirmed that oil was discovered in commercial quantity in Sokoto, said the state is happy with the development.
He added that details of the discovery would be made public, as soon as the presentation is made to the Federal Government and made available for exploration work.
“After having made the discovery, we are going to make formal presentation to the Federal Government to commence the process or allow us to continue.
“Once we make the formal presentation to the Federal Government and there is fund, then we will talk to you in details on what is and how it is,” he said.
Mr. Wamakko had hinted on Tuesday in Sokoto that there are abundant crude oil deposits in his state when he received the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, who paid him a Sallah visit.
The governor had said that the oil deposits, when fully explored and exploited, would boost the socio-economic status of the people of the state and the country’s economy.
