The traditional ruler of Akinale town in Ewekoro local government area of Ogun State, Olufemi Ogunleye, was robbed by a gang of armed robbers on Monday evening.
The robbers carted away some money and jewelry belonging to the monarch’s wife.
They also stole 10 mobile phones belonging to visitors who came on a holiday visit. The traditional ruler was not at home during the raid.
The four robbers who were fully armed stormed the palace in a Mazda car at about 5.30pm.
They laid siege around the palace for a while, and gained easy access into the palace as the gate was unlocked.
They gave a thunderous slap to one resident, who returned to the palace after he was sent on an errand and thought the robbers were genuine visitors.
As soon as the traditional ruler returned from his trip, he made a report at a police station in the Local Government Area. However, as at the time of this report, the police have made no arrest.
“’Having reported the case to the police, I have handed the bandits to God. That is their own problems’ the traditional ruler declared”.
