Eight hundred people have been evacuated from the affected shanty
A water supply pipe, burst on Monday in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria, South Africa, killing two children.
Johan Pieterse, the Tshwane Emergency Services spokesman in Johannesburg, stated this while addressing newsmen in Johannesburg.
Mr. Pieterse said that more than 800 people have been evacuated from the Phomolong informal settlement following the pipe burst around 1 a.m.
He said the two children- a four year old and a four month old- who lost their lives, were inside shacks when the water pipe burst.
“The four-year-old and four-month-old were suspected to have been drowned, but details were sketchy; another person was taken to hospital with serious injuries,” Mr. Pieterse said. “We are still busy on the scene with a search and rescue mission as some of the people are still missing.”
