
The Lagos State Command of Nigeria Prisons said on Sunday that the cause of death of Clifford Orji, an inmate, was being investigated by its medical team.
The Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Prisons, Lagos Command, Mr Chuks Njoku, made this known in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria .
“The cause of the death of Clifford Orji is yet to be ascertained as the doctors have not discovered any so far.’
NAN reports that Mr. Orji, an alleged ritualist and cannibal, died in Kirikiri maximum prison, where he was an inmate for over thirteen years.
Mr. Njoku disclosed that Orji died in the early hours of Friday, Aug. 17 while asleep.
“An autopsy is ongoing by our medical team to determine the cause of his death before we can invite his family.”
Mr. Njoku said that the body of late Clifford had been deposited in a mortuary in Lagos after his death.
Mr. Orji was arrested under the bridge at Toyota Bus-stop on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos with human parts.
He was subsequently charged before the Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court, but died while awaiting trial.
Mr. Njoku said late Clifford Orji while in the prison, had some health history which was private, known to only his doctor.
