The gunmen wounded three police escorts before abducting the university boss.
The Vice Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT), Cyprian Onyeji, was, Wednesday, kidnapped in a commando style, the Punch Newspaper reports.
Mr. Onyeji, who drives in a convoy of two was ambushed by gunmen at the University gate at about 11.30a.m. The University professor’s convoy was blocked at the school gate with a car the gunmen had parked around the gate.
The gunmen, ten in all, shot at the police vehicle escorting Mr. Onyeji, deflating its tyres and wounding three policemen in the vehicle. They drove the University boss away in his own Honda car.
The University has officially confirmed the abduction of its head.
The University’s Public Relations Officer, Ossy Ugwuoti, confirmed the kidnap to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Mr. Ugwuoti, said the incident occurred at the Agbani campus of the University and that Mr. Onyeji’s police orderly was shot and critically injured.
The police have also confirmed the kidnap.
