The anti bomb squad of the Nigerian Police Force Wednesday foiled an attempt to bomb the headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) located along Ali Akilu road in Sokoto.
Reports from witnesses at the secretariat said two persons riding on a motorcycle arrived the secretariat and handed over a polythene bag to one of the policemen guarding the complex saying “ Ga kayan Gwari”, translated, “here take some fruit”.
The Police officer became suspicious and declined to collect the bag from them after which they dropped in front of the secretariat and sped off.
The office then drew the attention of the anti-bomb squad, who moved in to diffuse the object. The state Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Ibrahim Balarabe, told Newsmen at the scene that the incident has created a lot of fear in people working at the secretariat, adding however that they are grateful to God the bomb did not go off.
“Our attention was drawn to the ugly development but we are grateful to God that it had not detonated,” he said. The state Commissioner of Police, Musa Aliyu, said that the Anti-Bomb Disposal Unit of the Command saved the situation.
He called on members of the public to complement the efforts of the Police by providing information at all times.
“On our part, we will continue to do our best to sustain the peaceful nature the state,” the CP said.
