A chieftain of the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria(ACN)in Ogun State  and party chairman in Ogun Central Senatorial District, Segun Taiwo, is dead.

Reports say he died of cardiac arrest but that could not be independently verified on Tuesday.PREMIUM TIMES learnt that the veteran politician suddenly took ill in his Obantoko, Abeokuta home on Monday.

Sources familiar with how he died said when Mr. Taiwo suddenly took ill, relatives tried to rush him to hospital, but that he died on the way there.

News of his death later travelled round the state on Tuesday,  sparking shock and disbelief among residents and associates. However, the state deputy governor, Segun Adesegun, officially broke the death news at the public launching of the revived ambulance services, where he represented Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

The remains of the Egba high chief has now  been deposited in the mortuary, as symphatizers continued to troop to his home to register their condolences.
Governor Amosu has also visited the Sacred Heart Hospital, Abeokuta,  where the remain of the late politician is being kept.

Family sources say Mr. Taiwo’s official outing was on Saturday at the  government-organised Ramadan Iftar held at Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The politician, who was also a former commissioner for youth and sports in the cabinet of former Governor Segun Osoba was seen at the Saturday event hale and hearty.

We learnt that on Monday, he was preparing for another state function (the launching of the revived ambulance services scheduled for Tuesday) not knowing that death was around the corner.
