Jonathan orders security agencies to find Senator Dantong's killers

President Goodluck Jonathan has given a marching order to security agencies in the country to fish out the killers of  Senator Gyang Dantong without delay.

Mr. Dantong, the senator  who, until his death, represented Plateau North Senatorial district, died in yet unclear circumstances on Sunday.

A version of the story said he died of gunshot wounds he sustained during an attack by Fulani herdsmen while yet another version said he collapsed and died while attending the burial of the victims of an attack on villagers on Saturday which left over 20 dead.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Reuben Abati, the president described the killing as cruel and regrettable.

Mr. Abati said Mr. Jonathan had directed all security agencies to immediately launch a thorough investigation into the incident and bring the senator’s killers to justice.

The President also condoled with the government and people of Plateau State as well as members and the leadership of the Senate on the incident.

The statement added, “The Federal Government is working hard to ensure that there is a check on impunity.

“That much was demonstrated with the recent changes made in the top echelon of our security architecture especially with the appointment of the new National Security Adviser.

“We shall continue to re- invigorate our fight against terrorism and impunity and we are already taking concrete steps.”

Jonathan is a JOKE – why he still the president boggles my mind. The presidency is way too much above his payload. At best, he should have been a principal of a secondary school or maybe a HOD of a tertiary institution.

If we do not get RID of JONATHAN, he will get RID of NIGERIA!

Fulani band of brigands has continued to slaughter their neighbours at the slightest provocation without giving peace a chance, yet they want to stay in that same community and graze their animals. They seems to have forgotten the Chinese proverb that goes thus “he who seeks revenge must dig two graves one for himself and one for his enemy”. The disposition of the fulani to start violence did not start today, they have continue to kill without any serious challenge from their victims nor from constituted authority.

The governor of plateau state who has all along been paying lip service to security has not deemed it necessary to procure an helicopter from his security vote to pursue attackers that has been perpetrating this manner of horrendous crime against the citizens of his state whom he has sworn on oath to protect.

A search helicopter with body heat detection mechanism will locate any human being hiding in a dense forest even in a murky night, but this is not important to the governor. Jonathan has made it clear to us, he does not want to be Nebucadenezzer in order to protect his people; otherwise I see no reason why he will not ask law enforcers to locate the habitat of the aggressors and have it destroyed in order to reduce their ability to make war or visit violence on others. Now that this has happened, let us wait and see who Jonathan was going to blame for employing the same tactics that has not worked other than himself.

The two versions of the death are not mutually exclusive as your journalist would appear to think they are.

This is a collective failure on both the state and federal govts. What saddens me is when we decide to kill our neighbors in anger because they are of a different religion. They are all a victim of what the elites are doing. How can we be so daft as not to notice that the elites are always the winners except when they are unfortunate to be felled by bullets as in the case of Datong and co. That does not happen always compared to how many of us die daily as a result of terrorism and other acts of violence. They government has failed in its responsibility to protect us. We should demand for that and not take arms against ourselves. We are all victims please-Then Nigerian masses are all victims
