An unidentified man died Tuesday afternoon after the vehicle he was travelling in got involved in a ghastly accident along Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway in Abuja.
A witness say the victim, a mechanic, was driving in a Honda Civic salon car when the incident occurred a few metres away from the bridge located shortly before the junction linking the highway to Wuye District.
The vehicle was said to have travelled at top speed when the driver suddenly lost control, veering off the highway before plunging into the drainage channel by the side walk, carrying along with it an oncoming Nissan GX salon car, with Lagos registration No., EKY 803 AC.
Another vehicle, a Honda Accord salon car, in a bid to avoid a direct collision with an of the two vehicle, also lost control, running into an electricity pole , badly damaging the front bonnet in the process.
The driver of the Nissan salon car, who was badly hurt in the accident, was reportedly rushed to the National Hospital by some officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) who came to the rescue of the victims.
Though the fate of two of the victims was not immediately known, it was gathered that the mechanic, who was trapped in the wreckage of the accident, and had to be salvaged by sympathizers, died on the way to hospital.
The wreckage of the Honda Accord was immediately towed away from the scene of the accident by VIO officials.
