The police in Kano have refuted reports that unknown gunmen attacked the Federal Government College in the city Monday night.
“It’s untrue,” the state commissioner of police, Ibrahim Idris, told PREMIUM TIMES. “There is no any attack on the school.”
Mr Idris wouldn’t say whether any attack happened close to the college’s compound or whether the student of the school were endangered in any way last night.
“I said there’s no attack on the school and its students,” he said in response to the question.
A Kano-based journalist however explained that some boys playing football around Naibanawa area of the city were attacked by unknown gunmen, with two of them reportedly killed.
“The school is close to where that incident happened, and that was why people were saying the school was the target of the attack,” he said.

There are reports and suggestions in the social media that gunmen have invaded the Federal Government College in Kano, Kano state. But we are unable to confirm the story. Although a resident claimed a detachment of the Joint Task Force responded to an emergency at the school, officials said they were not aware of any such attack.
As it is still early in the morning and it was raining in Kano, we are unable to establish the veracity of the report, as some relevant authorities are not answering or returning calls.
We will provide updates at daybreak.
