Police rescue abducted businessman

The police in Port Harcourt rescued a businessman from kidnappers on the eve on Tuesday May 8, 2012.

In the bid to rescue the business man who is based in Port Harcourt, the police engaged the suspected kidnappers in a gun battle in Okujagu mangrove of Port Harcourt and one of the suspects was killed. However, the others escaped.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ben Ugwuegbulam, said in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday that the N3 million ransom earlier paid to the suspected kidnappers, was retrieved.

He identified the salvaged businessman as Mr. Otunba, saying that he was abducted at 10.40 p.m on May 3, while returning to his residence.

He said the victim had been taken to an undisclosed hospital for observation, while efforts had been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects.
