UPDATE !6: Bukola Saraki has just been released, and he is back in his Abuja home. He will return to the police on Wednesday, this time in Lagos. He was grilled by top detectives, led by Tunde Ogunsakin, commissioner of police in charge of the Special Fraud Unit. He looked troubled and agitated during his interrogation, sources close to the investigative team told PREMIUM TIMES.
An hour after one a source close to the investigation team spoke to us, spokesperson for the police, Frank Mba, told us via a text message, “After hours of intensive but very professional interrogations, Senator Saraki was this evening granted bail by the police – in line with his constitutional rights.
“He is however expected to report back to the Police on Thursday as investigations are stil ongoing.” We were told Wednesday by a source familiar with the investigation.
UPDATE 15: Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mbah says Mr. Saraki is still being held at Force Headquarters and that he could not tell how long the interrogation might last.
Mr. Mbah said,He is still with us. He is being interrogated by our top-level detectives. I can’t say how long the interrogation might last.”
When asked if Mr. Saraki would be held overnight, he said, “I can’t speculate. He will remain with us for as long as necessary. I am not among those interrogating him and I don’t know how much time they need to do their job.”
