Goons suspected to be members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect, have injured three policemen during an attack of Rijiyar Zaki police station, along the Bayero University permanent site road in Kano.

The Kano state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Magaji Majiya confirmed the attack in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria. He said the incident happened at about 12:00 noon.

Mr. Majiya said the gunmen came to the police station on motorcycles and opened fire on the police men adding that the provocation caused the policemen to respond with similar onslaught.

“There was an exchange of fire between the attackers and the policemen and in the process three policemen sustained minor injuries.”  Mr. Majiya said.

He added that security operatives have since cordoned off the area with a view to affecting the arrest of the suspects.

“The police station is intact while the injured policemen were taken to the hospital for medical attention.”
