A peaceful protest organized by civil society in Lagos in memorial of those killed during the last anti fuel subsidy protest has been dispersed by the police.
The procession, which began at Labour House, Yaba, was broken up at Maryland after an argument between the organizers and a senior police officer.
Dipo Fashina and Abiodun Aremu, leading the procession walked out of the senior police officer when they could not convince him that “they did not need police permit for the march.”
The officer, who said he had orders from the police commissioner, signalled his officers and fumes from tear gas canisters rented the air.
More to come…
