The Bauchi State commissioner of Police, Ikechukwu Aduba says the bomb and gun attacks that occurred at Tafawa Balewa town, as earlier reported by Premium Times were carried out by armed robbers.
Mr. Aduba, who spoke at a press conference in his office this afternoon, also confirmed that a divisional police officer, whose name was given as Mr.Adelekan, was killed by the attackers in his hotel room. just as a military officer who came as part of a reinforcement team also lost his life in a gun battle that ensued between his team and the attackers.
About eight other people, comprising police officers and some civilians were also killed in the attacks.
The commissioner however said the combined efforts of a joint patrol teamsmade up of police and military personnel successfully repelled the robbers attempt to rob a new generation bank in Tafawa Balewa township and that most of the officers killed lost their lives in the gun battle that took place at Mararaban Liman Katagum road block.
Mr. Aduba similarly confirmed that three improvised explosive devices were set off in two places of worship in Bauchi town, but no casualty was recorded, just as ten more IEDs were found and deactivated at the scene of the crimes.
The CP said six persons have so far been arrested in connection with the attacks and investigations have since commenced.
