#LagosDecides: Jimi Agbaje concedes defeat, congratulates Ambode

Even though collation of results in the Lagos governorship election is still ongoing, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the election, Jimi Agbaje, has conceded defeat and congratulated his main challenger, Akinwunmi Ambode of the All Progressives Congress.

Mr. Agbaje telephoned Mr. Ambode at exactly 6:58 PM to concede defeat and congratulate the APC candidate, the spokesperson for Mr. Ambode’s campaign, Steve Ayorinde, told PREMIUM TIMES.

Mr. Ayorinde said in response, Mr. Ambode thanked Mr. Agbaje and wished him well.

There have been widespread celebration in the camp of the APC after collations from local government areas suggested Mr. Ambode had defeated Mr. Agbaje.

The Independent National Electoral Commission is however yet to release an official result of the election.

Mr. Agbaje had a few hours ago assured his supporters that he could only be said to have lost after an official announcement by INEC.

In a message he posted to his official Facebook Page about two hours ago, Mr. Agbaje had said he was following the collation of results from across the state and remained confident of victory.

He said reports suggesting he had lost were unofficial and should be discountenanced.

Mr. Agbaje said, “Lagosians I want to thank you for coming out yesterday to exercise your right to vote.

“I want to assure you that we are currently monitoring the vote counting process, so please do not believe the various unofficial numbers that are being shared across the internet.

“An official announcement will be made at the appropriate time when all numbers are in.

“Continue to remain resolute, and again, thank you for your continued support.”

Wow, Nigeria has really matured. I thank God that the hate preachers and trouble makers have been silenced. Well done to Agbaje – lovely guy, rotten party. If Agbaje were APC he’d win by a landslide. Congrats to Ambode and ALL Lagosians.

Finally,we have won mini Nigeria.Congrats to all who stood by us and supported us. To our opponents,we say thank you for putting up a good fight.

Faeces in Ibos faces. Smelly people

    • newnigerian1970

Follow Buhari & APC’s example. Your attitude is now old fashioned, hence I won’t respond to you in kind. We all have to move forward. Start using your brain. A lot of Igbos have celebrated Ambode’s victory and voted for him enthusiastically. So you’re not really thinking straight are you?

My comments are not for Ibos like you. They are for hard core biafrians who daily want the worse for Nigeria.

        • Bin Fodio

Then next time choose your words carefully and avoid generalizing. Many Ibos are straight forward and wish good for the country. This type of generalization is one of the factors that destroyed GEJ’s leadership. He surrounded himself with people who always made sweeping statements and condemned all Yorubas/Hausa/Fulani/Kanuri etc while in fact there were many among those ethnic groups that voted for him in 2011. It’s demoralizing that you choose a person only for him or his cronies to turn round and abuse you.

          • BABUYANMA

You are right. Sometimes when you shoot arrow to a crowd, you hit the innocent also

  • Bourdillion King

In the age of PVC and card Readers, all that is needed to win election in Nigeria is to threaten Igbos and keep them out of election booths. The Hausa/Fulani started it in the North, the Oba of Lagos imitated it with the Lagoon threat. And it is working fine.

    • Ayobanna Ikeanumba

I don’t actually think so, rather Lagos has the most civilized and informed Nigerian population whose Hausa or Obas threat cannot move. They are people that know their rights and wrong, and am happy to be part of them.

    • Paului

The Ibo person is more resourceful than you and you know it.

  • Guguru

Nigeria’s democracy works in spite of its small flaws. This is amazing to see a day when people concede defeat. Nigerians are moving forward. This is great.

Goodluck Jonathan is a let-down to his followers

Ayo Fayose shows a better example of a party leader with his total victory in Ekiti
state today where he reportedly won 99% of legislative seats; free and fair, after he’d
earlier won 100% of Ekiti local government councils last year in free and fair election.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be remembered for conceding defeats.
It is Mr. Goodluck Jonathan who led PDP on that tragicomedy path of dalliance.
All else PDP did in the past is fading away under a torrent of concession of defeat.
What a baleful legacy Mr. Jonathan wants to leave behind for “Africa’s biggest party”.
If he’d told PDP members he would lead then into defeats, they’d not have chosen him.
I hope Goodluck Jonathan knows he won’t have any legacy if PDP is totally wiped out.

Who remembers the name of the army general of Germany who led Germany
to defeat in the eastern front during the second World War? Nobody. Historians
don’t care about abysmal losers. Hope the shy, bashful and utterly diffident Jonathan
is not in delusion as he is being flattered out of office and described as ‘statesman’
only for his failure to run faster than a cripple – who can’t run or who is forbidden
by law from law from running – and win an easy election against Muhammadu Buhari.

    • Question n’ Answer

……..And now, is Jonathan as the worst politician ever?

In my own opinion President Goodluck Jonathan went into this 2015 election
with an empty head but with an open mind and just hoping he might just win
these national elections without a plan; a strategy or a convincing manifesto.
He relied on idiots; for the most part, and the more he relied on idiots, the more
muffled his message his already dense message became. With his message lost
in a din of noise of statistics thrown at the 80% illiterate population inside Nigeria,
President Jonathan began to dig his own grave digger than 6-feet, as PDP is now
projected to lose Plateau state for the first time since 1999 when Jos North local
government is released later tonight. If that happens, President Jonathan would
surely be judged the worst politician ever in Nigerian history – with good reasons.

    • Ayobanna Ikeanumba

Jonathan has done the worst, but am more worried that PDP doesn’t even have a single individual who will have the final say like Asiwaju for ACN and Buhari for CPC all in ACP. Pdp will die quicker than one even thinks….

    • Bourdillion King

Jonathan did not start out to lead a party of a nation. He is not another Azikiwe, Awolowo, Nyerere or Jomo Kemyatta fighting for the independece of their people out of personal conviction or talent. Jonathan was placed in a leadership position by chance or, if you like, by those who thought he was harmless and could be used. Some how, they have been proved to be right.

      well said

  • Bridgebuilder

So we truly can say” JK we know” Ambode we Trust!!!. Congrats to us all. It’s been a riveting drama and if not for all the needless crisis-deaths,violence et al- it would have been a monumental” Naijawood “Epic drama.
