The President of the Senate, David Mark, has congratulated the president –elect, Muhammadu Buhari, for his victory at the polls, describing it as a reflection of the wishes of majority of Nigerians. .
Reacting to the election, Mr. Mark commended the political resilience of Mr. Buhari, noting that Nigerians have rewarded his efforts with this victory at the polls.
He urged the President- elect to be magnanimous in victory and govern Nigeria equitably and fairly irrespective of party affiliation or creed.
The Senate President also commended the sportsmanship of President Goodluck Jonathan, describing him as a worthy statesman.
“President Jonathan has assumed a clear leadership in the comity of African nations where Heads of Government are perceived to be sit-tight leaders,” Mr. Mark said in a statement by his media adviser, Kola Ologbondiyan on Wednesday.
“He (President Jonathan) has set a classic acceptance of the aphorism that power belongs to God and He grants whoever He pleases. For this, history will be kind to him.”
Mr. Mark, who himself won election into the upper legislative chamber for the fifth time, urged Nigerians to remain calm and peaceful during this process of transition stressing that ” this election has further demonstrated that democracy has come to stay in our country”.
