A 31-year old woman who concealed 430 grammes of heroin in her private part has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Onyinye Aladi, a single mother of one, was arrested during an inward screening of passengers aboard an Emirate flight from Pakistan.

In a statement on Thursday, the anti-narcotics agency said that the arrest was facilitated with the aid of scanning machines.

“During the inward screening of Emirate passengers, one Aladi Onyinye Juliet tested positive for narcotic ingestion,” said Hamza Umar, NDLEA Commander at the Lagos airport. “While under observation, the drug was subsequently expelled, field-tested and weighed.”

Preliminary investigations, according to the NDLEA, indicated that the suspect, who hails from Abia State, had established link with some Pakistani drug traffickers who sponsored her trip in collaboration with some local accomplices.

In her statement, Ms. Aladi said that she engaged in drug trafficking to settle her bills.

“I am a single mother and I need money to take care of myself and child,” said Ms. Aladi, who is based in Aba. “I used to sell clothes but the profit is inadequate to sustain my family. I would have earned half a million naira to pay for my rent and my child’s school fees if I had succeeded in bringing the drug.

“They paid for my return ticket and hotel accommodation. While in my hotel room, a Pakistani woman came to give me the drug. She also instructed me to conceal it in my private part to avoid arrest. Unfortunately, the NDLEA officers detected it.”

Ahmadu Giade, NDLEA’s chairman, said that the agency would continue to detect narcotics with the help of technological tools.

“The NDLEA is investing in capacity building and modern equipment in drug detection,” he said. “We hope to dislodge drug trafficking cartels through superior intelligence and best global practices. Investigation is on-going to arrest other members of the drug cartel connected to her case.”

The agency said that the suspect will soon be charged to court.

  • Total

You can imagine the damage this would have done to our youths if the drug made it to the streets. Even a woman has the gut to do this claiming she wants to take care of her child while planning to destroy other people’s children lives. Despite the news of those on death row in foreign nations over drug business some nigerian still continue in it. You see why the government should no longer plead for anyone caught in foreign land. Let them face the music may be it will serve as a deterrent.

She is looking for a better life than robbery in that country Nigeria. Hope you STOP putting blames on her unless you gonna do something to assist her and not ranting for politicians?

      • Yola

So drug trafficking is better life. It is really amazing how some people try defending indefensible which is maligning Nigerians all over the world. Anywhere you move you are label either a fraud or a drug pusher.

        • Umzee

We have to dare to be ourselves, however frightening or strange that self may prove to be. Children of drug mules lost their parents suddenly and in secretive was imprisoned in Ecuador were very worried that something bad would happen. Nobody support trafficking, they do it instead of stealing and end up beaten to death, that is what i understand with the above comment from Kelvin.

  • Curseless

The question is, do drug smugglers think things through before embarking on this dangerous trade. It is amazing that when they are caught they always say the same thing which is”my bussiness is not moving and I needed money to take care of my family” worst still ” somebody introduced me to this trade” but they will never identify the baron . I pity this woman who probably will now go to jail leaving the baby behind.

Even with the good economic situation in America, drug trafficking is still the order of the day. We need to change our orientation of life and stop blaming the president for another person’s evil deed.

      • Maria

I dont hate Mr President but I must tell the truth… he is a failure… fake musa.

        • musa

Why haven’t you too carried drugs since you say the economy is bad? You people that don’t see anything good in other just as you don’t believe my name is musa. Well I think the orientation should start from you cos I now know your level of enlightenment.

Why is it that all drug traffickers are from S.E or S.S. We now believed that it’s these people from that side of the country that paint our name black in the eyes of the world. Every country we went and said you are from Naija, you must pass a though screening before you proceed.

    • Umzee
