Amaechi condemns Okrika violence, blames Patience Jonathan

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

The Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has blamed Patience Jonathan, the wife of the Nigerian President, Goodluck, for the attack on members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress in Okrika, Rivers State.

The attack disrupted the party’s campaign rally.

Mr. Amaechi spoke to journalists in Abuja after the enlarged APC leaders meeting at the Shehu Yar’Adua centre in Abuja, Tuesday.

The governor also condemned the act of violence and expressed disappointment over the law enforcement agents’ failure to ensure a hitch-free campaign for the APC, despite having earlier assured the party of security and given approval for the campaign to hold.

“Again, as usual, the wife of the president won’t allow the APC hold rally in that place (Okrika). The wife of the president and the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers again organized thugs to disrupt APC rally. As usual, the police couldn’t protect us, over 200 police men. I asked the commissioner of police and he said they have over 200 policemen there. Yet, three explosions and then they opened fire on members of APC. The Channels TV reporter I hear, is injured, stabbed, and members of APC injured.

“We had meetings with DSS (Directorate of State Security) and police and they confirmed we could go ahead. There were 200 policemen and there were over 20 to 30 DSS men who came there and they did nothing,” Mr. Amaechi said.

Asked if Rivers State was ready for elections, he said, “You should ask the president, it’s not me you should be asking. If he is in Sambisa, if he is in Borno fighting the 14 local government areas. Like I said, there were crises in the Niger Delta in 2007 and there were elections. So if the 14 local governments of Borno and Adamawa and Yobe, he can’t go ahead with election, then where is he going ahead with election when the whole of Rivers State is being invaded by PDP and PDP thugs and security men are watching and doing nothing.”

He called for a stop to the harassment of APC members and supporters in OKrika, stating that it would be unpleasant if other Local Government Areas of the state take a cue from that situation.

“Clearly, the wife of the president do not want APC to campaign in Okrika, her local government area.” Mr. Amaechi said.

That woman is not a First Lady. She is a career politician.

  • Faruk Al-amin

Amaechi, make u no worry urself, we all know mama pisss is responsible for that stunt and we are fully in support of APC, in fact our support grows stronger by the day

To Whom Much Is Given….Those who do not learn from history end up repeating its failures. OBJ is not too far off that Mr President may end up going to ICC to answer to crimes against humanity like Mr. Gbagbo. Tread cautiously and it is never too late to save face and become statesmanlike Mr President. Elections is not a do or die affair as you claim but actions speak louder than words sir.

patience jonathan continues to sway away her husband’s supporters to Gov. Amechi and APC in Rivers State with all these violence she is instigating in Rivers State. How can a so called first lady be behaving like a thug and an illiterate market woman all the time? Didn’t her husband and GMB signed a non violence accord recently? Shame on her and wike. May the souls of those dead rest in peace and those injured we wish them speedy recovery.

  • justme

Finally, they have succeeded in pinning it on someone..APC can neva disappoint u wen it coms to blaming all n sundry for all their internal problems n wahalas!!

    • Twentymustgoinokrika

Where is Mbu? Ngwanu make you send policemen to Okrika to kill twenty people as promised. Your police for don end dis day nonsense…………………………………..

  • ine

MEND could equally have been a suspect, why single out Patience Jonathan?

  • Okey

It is extremely insensitive and very callous of any body to organize a political rally in Okrika at this hour. The Okrika community is in deep morning right now. Just two days ago, 11 women who visited Mrs Patience Jonathan, a daughter of Okrikrika, in Okrika, her indigenous home, lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident. A pale of gloom has since then been cast on the Okrika community. APC Rivers State should have shown a little concern and respect for the souls of the dead and their family who are at this moment in deep agony. Organizing and holding a political rally there now amounts to dancing on the bodies of the dead and mocking and humiliating over their bereaved families. We are Africans, we know the type of decorum required of anybody towards that community at this hour.

Nevertheless, Nigerians MUST desist from bloodletting as a means of settling scores. For any life lost, the hottest part of hell awaits the taker.

    • Kolapo Amidu Ojo

Point of correction, those 11 dead women were of Bayelsea and not Okrika that is in Rivers State.

      • taiwo

animal in human clothing,so what if they are from bayelsa?was it not okrika that they visited and were returning from when they had that accident and died?.Where is your sense of morality and feelings for fellow human beings that had the misfortune of dying and leaving behind loved ones. Why are APC members so mean and always seeking blood to sacrifice to their evil gods?

      • Okey

They visited who and where ?

If your visitor departs your house and dies on his/her way back home, your neighbours should come and throw party on your premisses the next morning ? To yourself be honest.

    • shola

Dear Mr./Mrs. Okey, organising any rally at all needs planning. This ca’nt be made overnight. Think of the logistic and all that is needed to make the rally a success.

      • Okey

Bigger rallies with far more input – money and man-power- have had to be postponed in this country.

    • shola

Listen, according to the website, it is a
DISCUSS.In any democratic country, freedom of speech is a fundamental human
right. You make your point, I make mine. So what is the problem!. Our views
need’t be compartible. That is democracy.

No one claims to have purchased or has a lease
of live to wisdom, so why the noise. It’s much ado about nothing.Take it or ignore it. End of this monopoly play.

      • Okey

Bros, I guess your response was wrongly directed to me.

I will be the last person to canvas for monopoly of views. That’s retrogressive and cannot build our democracy and society. Nevertheless, my best wishes.

These are planned acts aimed at indicting the presidency. Presient GOODLUCK JONATHAN would never involve himself in acts capable of tinting his image and the country negatively. The APC has nothing to offer, its a political party of thugs and bunch of aggrieved PDP prodigals. The latest of which is OBJ. #GEJ4NAIJA

    • Gaskiya

      Your brain is deranged.

  • taiwo

Amaechi is not the only governor of rivers state he should please spare us all these noise making and madness

  • Ette

This is what they are planning to do on election days but God will disgrace them as is being done now. If they have what it takes to win election fairly and creditably, why destroy others who are in the competition. If all politicians stop competitors from campaigning in their towns and villages, can we as a nation tolerate such madness. The wicked cannot go unpunished, and their time of judgment has come. God bless Nigeria.

APC will be defeated, they can make noise but they can’t win.

With due respect Gov. Amaechi, your job as state Governor is to make peace, not create uproar, do’nt make quite a splash. Iam not taking side, but as long as you don’t have a palpable proof who is behind this mayhem, let the investigating pannel do their job. You ca’t get things right through speculations. The Police Inspetor Generall has vowed to bring the perpetrators to book. If you are a true democrat, let justice speak!, Sir.

  • chi boss

Gov Amaechi Sir, i used to respect you until you started acting very funny and you opted for the APC Party… You are a governor and one of your primary duty is to ensure Peace, and to also ensure that the people in your state have security backing… So for you to come hear and tell Nigerians that Dame Patience is the cause of Violence in Okirika is not acceptable Sir…APC are really confused People..Vote the real GEE..#GEJ4NAIJA
