Faseun’s party, UPN, adopts Jonathan as own presidential candidate

Frederick Faseun, National Chairman, Unity Party of Nigeria

The Unity Party of Nigeria [UPN] on Friday adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the February 14 polls.

The party announced the adoption of Mr. Jonathan at its first National Convention to elect new officers, which was held in Lagos.

There had been controversy over the authentic leadership of the party but that appears to have now been resolved with the emergence of Frederick Faseun as National Chairman.

Speaking after the ratification of the new executives by members of the party from across the nation, Mr. Faseun said the UPN was a new party and needed time to take roots in all parts of the country.

He said, “We are still a young party and that is why we are not fielding a presidential candidate.

“We have asked our members who we are to support. We felt their pulse and it was moving in a particular direction.

“Allowing President Jonathan to continue in office for another four-year term will allow for the maturation of his infrastructural and socio-economic programmes.

“It will also guarantee continuity in development policies which a new government may likely abort.

“We are not confused about those we know that do not deserve our votes and our precious support.

“Therefore, the UPN will support Jonathan in next month’s election. We have endorsed him as our candidate.

“The national convention hereby resolves that all UPN structures and members nationwide will work for Jonathan.”

Mr. Faseun lamented that Nigerian politics had become peopled by politicians without ideals or ideology.

“That informs why a politician can be in the ruling party in one minute and suddenly cross-carpets to the opposition party in the next minute and no one would see anything wrong with it.

” We cannot afford to run the country this way and UPN has come to change the game,” he said.

According to him, the party will devote its energy to playing a people-driven politics, ignite the confidence of citizens and uphold the sanctity of the general elections.

At the convention, Yuusul Ariyo was elected National Secretary, Okey Nwanneri National Treasurer and Niyi Ajewole  National Legal Adviser among others.

Modupe Onitiri-Abiola, the wife of the late MKO Abiola, was announced as the party’s governorship candidate for Lagos state.

  • Eniriches

    Fasheun, Onijekuje. At your age.

    • Tunsj

The right word is Fasheun, OLE.

  • Sanmi

Fasheun, you and generations of your children will always beg and play second fiddle to crooks for denigrating the memory of Awo. You have laid that foundation and generations of your children will build on it. You will see the good of Nigeria but will never partake of it, as you will certainly perish on the side lines. It is a serious mistake for Yoruba elders not to have copyrighted UPN to prevent filths like Fasheun from abusing the name. Food for thought, Afeniferere.

  • Maria

OPC adopted Jonathan as their candidate.

    • Otile

Maria, no reasonable person wants to set the clock backward. If you people cannot muster a capable youth to lead Nigeria, then leave Jona alone. Imam Buhari is the case where the medicine is worse than the disease.

  • Omoagunmate

The man wants his own share of the N21b election bribing fund. He knows that he is not going to get a kobo from a Buhari led APC, only maybe a thank you if he is lucky, so it is not a surprise that he is following the money.

  • sammyctu ode

Faseun is the Yoruba terrorist and somebody who has been deranged for a long time. Their upn party is not the UPN party founded by THE GREAT CHIEF AWOLOWO. Fasheun’s upn is chop and chop party a far as the Yorubas are concerned.

  • Kanoute Kabiru

The tin dey pain the APC e-zombies no be small o!
    Read their comments above!
    Chai! LWKM!
One rabbit is even comparing OPC with a FAKE MEND splinter group!
The APC MEND…the one that comprises of Wahala and TundeMESS..the renowned invisible-yam sellers!
    I dey LaffooooO!

  • kday

Please ignore that man. This is Yoruba land and we bow to no one. Fasheun can shout all he wants with his one vote. If Obasanjo couldn’t force our support during his powershow in office, what makes this man think he can speak for any part of Yoruba nation . Mama Awo had spoken on behalf of late Awo and the grassroot support for Buhari had been activated. All this is a counter move by PDPigs to check that. May God Bless Nigeria

    • Otile

Whatever the case, don’t back the wrong horse again.

  • kkanu

Welcome our in-law jare! You are very smart to chose Jonathan, unlike ‘Navigator’ who has sold his soul to the devil. Obj is a bad in-law! and we will re call our daughter, that one married to his ‘other’ son in New York. If Awolowo is alive today..he will endorse Jonathan as his presidential candidate! Let Apc people eat their hearts out.

    • King Carlos

      Which Awolowo?

      • Otile

        Jeremaih Obafemi Awolowo.

  • King Carlos

I will be surprisedvif they get more than one vote, even their family members will not vote. Because of money this old man is soiling his reputation.

    • Otile

Are you talking about Ebola Tinubu?

  • Buhari
recently declared unapologetically in a BBC interview: “If what happened in
2011 should again happen in 2015, by the grace of God, the dog and the baboon
would all be soaked in blood.” These are the tokens of an irresponsible
politician, whose ambitions for power supersede the national interest. Who then
are the dogs and baboons that Buhari has in mind to soak in blood if and when
he loses yet again come 2015? Are they his children or are they not his boko haram men

    • Otile

Unfortunately his minions are hip-tied to him, and he is taking them in a hand basket to hell.

  • Johnson Omale

Those that are close to this man should advise him to stop disgracing himself. When Al-Mustapha was released from prison the shameless old man was following him giving fake testimonies all over the place. I held him in high esteem but now discovered that he’s easy to buy.

    • Otile

Everybody cannot be blind like some of you. Hon Faseun is a good man. The blind cannot lead into the ditch any longer.

  • Truthometer

Frederick Fasheun cannot even win any election in his household not to talk of his vain support for Dumbo. He is one of those government contractors that is merely looking for a way to survive.

    • Otile

      That’s your opinion.

      • Reminisce6

And whose opinion have you been representing? The subtle reference to Tinubu is so conspicuous but the reality is the Fasehuns of this world are a nonentity in this land and does not possess the wherewithal to deliver anything of substance to nobody.Tinubu is human and every human has his frailties but he is the best thing to ever happen to Nigeria since the inception of the current dispensation.Love him or hate him,his influence in Odu`a land today can never be matched nor equaled by the combinations of those elders with bad belles and the ingrates in PDP.

        • Otile

          Your opinion too.

  • taiwo

Operation drive Tinubu into political wilderness is on,his two stooges(BUHARI AND AMBODE) will both be disgraced at the polls

    • Otile

    • Tunsj

You meant your hero, Jonathan, will be disgraced at the polls.

  • taiwo

Tinubu is a disgrace to the spirit of Awo and that is why Awo’s family has refused to recognise or associate with him bc of his merchantile nature and his willingness to sacrifice the collective good of the yorubas for his selfish personal interest.Instances of how he truncated the chances of a yoruba woman from becoming the speaker of the house of reps and his antics of fixing his immediate family members in available elective positions and fixing his young novice daughter as iyaloja general comes to mind

    • Otile

But the urchins in APC are not talking about that. They are happy that Abu Tambuwal stole the speakership from Hon Mulikat. What a shame.

      • King Carlos

You are an illiterate for this.. ‘stole’ from mulikatu, only the members of the house of reps had the rights to vote for their speaker, tinubu is just better at the game than them, then your president came to the south west to say , he tried to give south west the speaker…who is he? What about the appointments that was withing his beck and call? Did he n ot marginalize the south west?

  • Ologun David

    yoruba vote is for GEJ.

    • Otile

    • Tunsj

Speak for yourself. I agree with you that “Ologun David’s” vote is for GEJ.

  • Alcindo Satori

Eheen!!!! That’s what I’m talking about. At last some decency from the Yoruba tribe. Now they’re starting to see it for what it is; elected civilian vs. retired military junta, democratic vs. dictator, decentralized civilian vs. islamist… and the beat goes on!

  • Otile

I know that there are more decent people in Ododuwaland than the urchins and Taw’heeds constantly insulting us on a daily basis. I am glad the urchins are in the minority and their leader is going to suffer another debilitating loss next month.

    • Maria

      lol! You are a lunatic.

  • Comfortkay

Mr Fasheun is a jkoer, how old was he when UPN under Chief Awolowo was the Presidential Candidate? It is a waste of time reading anything about him because he is not relevant in Yoruba Nation. He is looking for a security contract in Niger Delta after the election and am sorry he has failed . CHANGE IS COMING.

    IS UPN STILL EXISTING??????????????????????????????????????????????????

  • Omo Akin

We can now understand the reason OPC broke up under Fasheun; the man is a mercenary. If you support Jonathan, why do you need to float a party? Why not just join PDP. Those in the ruling party who defected to the opposition can be said to have principle because they left “where the food is” for the opposition for good cause. Those in the opposition who move over to the ruling party “where the food is” are the ones without principle but for their pocket. Mr. Fasheun, you belong to this second category; those who gravitate to the ruling party “where the food is”.

  • Mosaku 147

Fasheun is a complete nonentity, totally irrelevant in yorubaland. Whosoever thinks he has a gain in the southwest in his likes with Osoba plus falae is living in a fool’s paradise. PT should know better.
