AFCON Qualifiers: Super Eagles beat Congo in style

Super Eagles

The Super Eagles on Saturday showed Champions stuff when they secured a crucial 0-2 win over Congo in their penultimate game of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Eagles knew they needed not just a win over the Red Devils at Pointe Noire and they gave it their all to secure the needed results which has now seen them in good stead to make it to next years’ AFCON

Two second half goals from returnee striker Ik Uche from the penalty spot and Aaron Samuel ensured that Nigeria jump to second spot in Group A with seven points from 5 games.

The Eagles now need a win over South Africa to seal their place amongst the sixteen teams that would compete in Africa’s biggest football tournament.

Saturday’s win for Nigeria, to say the least, was hard earned with the likes of Godfery Oboabona ending with torn jerseys and Azubieke Egwueke with a bandaged head.

The vociferous Congolese fans did not even help matters as they threw all sorts of materials into the pitch as Nigeria raced to the two-goal lead.

The development saw the Congo Nigeria game been temporarily suspended for over six minutes

Nevertheless, the Super Eagles held their nerves till the final whistle and were proud to avenge the shock defeat they suffered in the hands of the Congo team last term in Calabar.

TIME TO BAN CONGO BRAZZAVILLE FOOTBALL TEAM

Congo Brazzaville should be banned from football for ten [10] years.
The country is a disgrace to football. Their French Coach should also be
sacked forthwith for pretending and earning fat salaries ten times
above the locals. Nothing on the field today in Poin Noire stadium
showed that the Congolese ever played football before. No three good
were passes were done or completed.

The dark ages Congolese players spent more time in a salon to cut hair-styles

for television but that only made them look more like primates than footballers.

Losing a game is nothing but losing a game without grit or sense is close to
treason in soccer. Congolese footballers should look for something else
to do – especially the tall number 10 player who seemed like an
abandoned child looking for affection by falling down all over the place
and expecting to be loved by an angry crowd which instead reacted by
pelting him and all other Congolese players during the match with any
    object capable of injuring.

Congrats to the super eagles. The Congolese should be sanctioned for violence. They defeated Nigeria 3-2 at calabar and our fans cheered them. So why turn violence?

  • Okache

    Good one, Super Eagles.

In a 15th June 2010 report, BBC’s reporter, Caroline Duffield, described Nigeria’s Niger Delta as the ‘World oil pollution capital’ of the world.

I searched frantically through Nigerian newspapers both off line & online, none reported it. While the media houses bask in that misplaced euphoria in reporting stories regarding corruption here and there, commensurate energy is never dissipated on issues relating to the incessant and continual pollution of my Niger Delta…The reason for such anomaly would have been difficult to fathom but for the information given by by Late Gideon Orkar in their April 22, 1990 revolution, – “…the deliberate desire to continue to plunder the resources of a people why attempting to make them eternal objects of servitude…”

Hear Caroline Duffield: “…On 12 May 2009, Shell’s Bomo manifold blew up, leaking massive amounts of crude… A second leak – from a derelict oil tap – had already been continuously spilling oil for years…Shell hired a local company to clean up, but the area remains an oil
slick…The oil industry is accused of a sharp double standard in its operations – of taking advantage of Nigeria’s lack of environment law and weak regulation, while observing higher standards of safety and maintenance overseas…”

“It kills our fish, destroys our skin, spoils our streams, we cannot drink,” says Saturday Pirri, a local palm wine tapper…”I have no
    livelihood left.”

The fight to get to the center and control my inherited resources gets dirtier by the seconds…and no one cares about my polluted ecosystem. I am a UNIPORT student and we are a family of fishermen…y Mama can no longer pay my tuition & accommodation bcos our rivers in Bodo and environs have been destroyed with spills and so she and others can no longer fish in the waters…even to eat anything planted from our village is suicidal bcos toxins are in land, water and air. So, how do I pay my school fees? No more source of livelihood. What do we do? Do we abandon our community for the oil companies? Or do I join the noble Niger Delta freedom fighters to CONFRONT ?
