BREAKING: Judge acquits Lagos Speaker, Ikuforiji, of N600million money laundering charges

Adeyemi Ikuforoji

Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court, Lagos, has discharged and acquitted Adeyemi Ikuforiji, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, from money laundering charges.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had accused Mr. Ikuforiji and Oyebode Atoyebi, his aide, of laundering about N600 million.

In his ruling, the judge described the trial as “anachronistic” and should not have been allowed to continue.

“This proceeding should have been treated as an aborted trial and the charges should have been withdrawn,” he added.

There was a loud scream by Mr. Ikuforiji’s supporters in the courtroom as the judge ended his ruling.

    Gentlemen:

No news here, really. We all know Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court, Lagos.
Anyone in Nigeria could have predicted how he will decide a corruption case before him.
He’s never dis-appointed. Accused persons are always happy to be brought to his court.

It was the same Justice Ibrahim Buba who ruled on April 4th that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi –
the former Governor of Central Bank (and alleged sponsor of Boko Haram on SSS affidavit)
should be paid 50 million Naira as damages for the SSS inviting him for investigation which he evaded.

      @ Sola:

Oh, yes, thank you so much for putting this in perspective, God bless you. The EFCC should immediately file a notice of appeal next week, latest. I have never heard of moneylaundering being ‘anachronistic’ in this world. The Nigerian media should wake up to rail at Judges torpedoing justice in Nigeria. The foreign account case against Bola Tinubu too was torpedoed likewise. That case against Tinubu is said to be on appeal, according to attorney-general Adoke.
But Nigerians have been shut off by journalists from knowing the actual status of that case.

Mohammed Adoke is not an attorney general but just a waste of space.

The Nigeria judiciary is promoting corruption in this country. Secondly, we are not blind to what’s going on in the judicial system, we know about 100 million must have been given to the judge that handles the case. God wrath and judgement will suddenly come upon everyone of you that partaken in that money.

I now support the policy just announced by the Lagos state PDP –
that, both Raji Fashola and Bola Tinubu shall be probed for thefts.
That is how democracy should be, there must be accountability.

The result of the probe should lead to detention and trial for thefts
and to the full recovery of all stolen funds from the Lagos treasury.
Sentencing to long terms of imprisonment under the law should follow.

“Several Nigerian journalists who call black white; and, whitewash criminals for brown envelopes,
will not escape the imminent revolutionary cleansing of Nigeria, because with their pens they wrote
to defend the ruination of their own, by laundering official thieves as ‘great men’ and aiding evil.”

Nigerian journalists go as far as describing brazen thieves as ‘Man of the Year’. Now, there is no immunity
for journalism in a revolution. These insane writers will be subjected to the same pain and penalty as the official thieves and corrupt creatures they cover up”.

The massive looting of Lagos state by the Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has reached monumental proportion. Tinubu whose companies recently conered a multi billion road construction job in Ogun State, has in his pocket all the juicy contract in all the Action Congress’ states.

In retrospect, it might be difficult to come to terms with the fact that an individual could hold the entire south west to ransom. There is no doubt that Tinubu has succeeded in buying the Lagos State government, and he has done this using government funds.
          .
Whenever someone in Lagos begins to wonder where their 4th mainland bridge went, or what was the fate of the pipe-borne water project, or even where the schools and hospitals had vanished to, there is a silence that contains it all. The largest landlord in Lagos has done as he has pleased, and the rest of the state just has to deal with it. For instance: Number 4, Oyinkan Abayomi (formerly Queens) Drive, Ikoyi: A 5-bedroom detached house on one acre of land which was originally the Lagos State Governor’s guest house since 1979, but which now belongs to Tinubu. The certificate of occupancy of the property valued at N450 million was signed and released to him by Fashola in 2007 shortly after he assumed office.

Tinubu’s residence at 26 Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi was initially falsely presented as Oando Plc Guest House. Later, he purportedly bought it from Oando, and used public funds to rebuild and renovate it. The Lagos State Government bought the property and paid an undisclosed sum to him and thereafter gave the property back to him under the bogus Pension Bill he signed to law shortly before he left office in 2007. The property is worth over N600 million.

T’would be good to know what grounds the learned Judge relied upon to come to this decision!

  • Okey

It is the same “Justice” Ibrahim Buba who awarded Sanusi Lamido N50 Million as damages. Sanusi had returned from official assignment to Niger Republic and at the Murtala Mohammed Airport he was told his time as the CBN Governor was up. The gentleman then waited for 30 minutes for his friends to come and pick him to a private residence. It is this 30 minutes of Sanusi waiting for a non-government vehicle that Ibrahim Buba held as “detention” and awarded Sanusi N50 Million at the expense of every Nigerian. With this man at the bench, the CJN Justice Aloma Muktar needs no perennial sermons on the rot in the judiciary.

I hope no one expected he would be found guilty.
