The national leadership of the PDP has urged its members in Adamawa State to support the state Acting Governor, Ahmed Fintiri, to ensure his victory in the Oct.11 governorship election.
Mr. Fintiri won the party’s ticket to contest the bye-election with over 600 votes at its primaries Saturday in a contest with five other aspirants.
In a statement Monday by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, the party congratulated Mr. Fintiri on his emergence as the party’s candidate and other aspirants who contested the ticket with him, for demonstrating the spirit of sportsmanship.
The party also commended them for their commitment to the party throughout the nomination process and for keeping with the ideals and visions of the party and its founding fathers.
The statement added that the party’s national leadership was satisfied with “the level of camaraderie and sense of purpose that characterised the primary election’’.
The statement attributed the success of the exercise to the spirit of oneness within the party`s fold in Adamawa.
The statement also congratulated its candidate, Shem Nuhu, for emerging victorious at the Niger East Senatorial by-election.
It said the outcome of the Niger election confirmed the popularity of the PDP among the people at the grass roots.
The statement said that Niger State remains a stronghold of the PDP and urged its members in the state to continue to work hard.
This, it said, became necessary to ensure that the party remained pre-eminent ahead of 2015 general elections.
The winner of the Adamawa by-election will serve the unspent period of the immediate past Governor, Murtala Nyanko, who was impeached by the state House of Assembly on grounds of misconduct. (NAN)
