Ebola: Don’t travel to Nigeria, others, India, Greece advise nationals

“It is deemed appropriate to issue strict travel instructions to the public and to boost the level of preparedness at the entry gates to the country.”

Greece and India have warned their citizens to avoid non-essential travels to Nigeria, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone because of the outbreak of Ebola virus in the west African countries.

A statement issued by the Greek Health Ministry said the recommendation was after a meeting with the Hellenic Center of Disease Control and Prevention, KEELPNO.

The ministry said the country would take “precautionary measures” at ports and other entry points to monitor people coming into the country.

“Our country has a low level of risk in terms of the virus entering the country.

“But it is deemed appropriate to issue strict travel instructions to the public and to boost the level of preparedness at the entry gates to the country,” the ministry’s statement said.

Greece is just the latest among countries advising travellers to cancel trips to countries affected by the virus.

Similarly, India Union’s Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan, was reported as saying that the country had taken
precautionary steps to deal with any case of the virus.

In a statement obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, Mr. Vardhan recommended that non-essential travel to Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria be deferred.

The World Health Organisation, WHO, has reported 1,603 cases, including 887 deaths (as of August 4), in West Africa from Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.

The Indian health minister also said the government would be obtaining details of travellers originating or transiting from Ebola virus affected countries to India from the concerned Airlines and Indian Missions.

He said the government would track these persons after their arrival in India, up to their final destination in the country.

According to the India’s External Affairs Ministry, some 40,000 Indian citizens are currently living in Nigeria.

Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, is due to brief members of the diplomatic corps later on Thursday.

Mr. Chukwu will brief the diplomats on Nigeria’s response to the Ebola virus outbreak, after the country recorded two deaths from the virus in Lagos.

The U.S., Germany, and France are among those who have warned travellers to cancel trips to the countries affected by the virus.

Greece, maybe… but imagine India too, where one million people bath themselves in the River Genges at a go. Imagine India!

New Delhi is one of the dirtiet cities on the face of this planet… where cows goats and humans struggle for space

  • Wole

During your administration, you supported the destruction of Odi. Women, unarmed men and children were destroyed. Were those people less human than the American cases you cited?

    • George

Every WOLE are always distortive WHY?

      E.G. WOLE SOYINKA, pure liar

      • Wole

I know a certain George who didn’t lie but was jailed for contract splitting. Here is another George who thinks the Odi massacre during OBJ administration (in which FFK was a minister twice) is more of a fairy tale. It simply never happened! What an irony. FFK has finished your lot: you are the reason blacks kill blacks. You know why? Some black Georges are extremely gullible. They never see it a sin that a whole Odi is levelled. GEJ was there after the military operation. He will tell you what he found – helpless men and women and kids – those who committed the crimes have fled before the military arrived.

If you say the Odi killings never happened, I will say you are right. If you say FFK was not a minister in the administration that authorised such killing. I will not fight you. If you say the people who lost their lives to that atrocity were all criminals, I will say you are correct. You know why? I know the blood of those innocent people killed by the decision of that administration in which FFK was a key player will seek vengeance. Do you know why none of them never know rest? Do you know why none of them will never smell greatness? Do you know each and every one of them will die cruel death? Don’t ask me. The ferguson story is just a case in point. God is the silent judge.
