The Ebonyi State House of Assembly descended into chaos Monday morning, culminating in the impeachment of the Speaker, Chukwuma Nwazunku.
It is not clear yet what triggered the crisis in the Assembly, but Mr. Nwazunku was removed from office by 18 out of the 24 members of the House on Monday morning.
Another member representing Abakaliki South constituency, Helen Nwaobasi, was immediately elected to replace him via a motion moved by Eni Udoma and seconded by Jerry Obasi.
The lawmakers had first lifted the suspension slammed on three of their colleagues, including the deputy speaker, Blaise Orji, before going ahead to impeach the Speaker.
The other members whose suspension was lifted are Mr. Chima and Frank Onwe.
The motion for the impeachment of Mr. Nwazunku was subsequently moved Mr. Chris Usulor and seconded by the Minority Leader, Enyi Enyi.
