PDP blames APC for Nyako’s removal

The PDP says Mr. Nyako’s removal showed he had lost public support.

————————–

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has blamed the All Progressives Congress, APC, for last week’s impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State by state lawmakers.

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, Sunday, said it was unfortunate that the APC that claimed to champion the rights of the people to choice of leadership was the same party turning against the constitutionally guaranteed right of the people to withdraw legitimacy through impeachment and recall.

“The impeachment of the former governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako is an act of democracy. It is a constitutional right granted exclusively to the people of Adamawa State and no other. This, they exercised through the votes of the overwhelming majority of the elected members of the State House of Assembly who also accorded rule of law and due process the rightful place in removing Nyako. Therefore, allegations by the All Progressives Congress (APC), linking the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and President Goodluck Jonathan to this, are purely escapist and can only come from revisionists and reactionary forces, the unmasked pretenders to democracy,” the party said.

“It is really an irony but what does one expect from the APC that is undergoing febrile seizure over the furious collapse of its imagined dominance of Nigeria’s political space? It is not surprising that the drowning, who is striving to clutch on any available straws would turn the PDP into a scape goat.”

The statement advised the APC to look inwards in finding answers to its woes and leave the PDP out of it, saying that “if a sitting governor who has spent over seven years in office could be removed by more than two-third of the members of his state assembly, reasons should be located to fundamental factors within rather than the trite excuses of external influence.”

“How did almost the entire members of the state assembly, some of whom were his allies, turn against Nyako? Those who buy into the APC’s wild allegations of external influence and monetary inducement will only submit to the illogical because of the impossibility that there is no member among the 24 out of 28 member assembly with conscience to reject such influence. And if the APC insists that Nyako’s decampment is the reason for his impeachment, we also ask why the Adamawa electorates whom he had served for over seven years raised no hoot in defence of him.

“The APC must therefore go back to the reasons tabled by the Adamawa assembly instead of desecrating and discrediting the citadel of democracy which has been its hobby for some time. That the sins of Nyako were not punished earlier until ‘yesterday’ as it argued does not make them less, even obviate or offer remission. The law, it is said, has a long arm. The time it catches up with an offender is immaterial to the gravity of the offence,” the PDP insisted.

The party further argued that those having sleepless nights over the impeachment were not indigenes of Adamawa, rather selfish APC leaders from other states benefiting from syphoned resources of Adamawa people.

“Instead of engaging in unfounded claims, the APC leaders should be humble and honest enough to look inwards and seek answers as to why the entire people of Adamawa state rejected the former governor and why the acclaimed mobilization of APC, including visits by some of their governors failed to save him. The APC should ask why Nyako’s removal was greeted by jubilations by the people as such do not happen when good leaders suffer such fate.

“We wish to note that this is not unconnected with the maladministration that characterized the APC-led government of former Governor Nyako, the details of which Nigerians now know as well as the fact that the impeached governor bluntly refused to offer explanations despite being given ample opportunity to do so in line with constitutional provisions.

“While we state in no uncertain terms that neither the PDP as party nor President Jonathan is remotely or otherwise connected to the impeachment in Adamawa or elsewhere, we also wish to ask the APC to locate the sword of damocles dangling in some of the states which they control to the expression of the collective will of the people against bad governance as the PDP believes strongly in separation of powers and the sanctity of the legislature.”

RUSSIAN security experts are worried over the possibility of the All Progressives Party (APC) taking over the reins of government in Nigeria next year, branding the party a coalition of Muslim extremists.

The thinking in Russian political and security circles about the future of Nigeria was made known by a former presidential and Kremlin adviser, Alexander Nekrassov.

Nekrassov, regarded globally as a political analyst and commentator, made the disclosure in a celebrated editorial opinion written for the respected Al-jazzera news channel.

He noted that the thinking in Russia was to support President Goodluck Jonathan to continue in office and, if necessary, to extend emergency rule in the North-East base of Boko Haram and postpone the forthcoming general elections.

    • Ide4u

Redeem yourself by getting the facts about Nigeria right before delving to Russia, a country you know nothing about. The Russians, who you are emulating here just murdered 298 innocent people aboard Malaysian airline by blowing them off the sky in a style reminiscent of Boko Haram. There is no difference between Russian president, Putin and Boko Haram’s Shekau. What has the emergency rule in the North East achieved? Whether GEJ extend it or not, it makes no difference after all.

Its all western propaganda–how can Putin shot down a Malaysain plane–first of all ask yourself what the Russians stand to gain from downing a plane that had Russian nationals on board–and other international HIV/AID experts–what would Russians BENEFIT from undertaking such a FRUITLESS exercise-it does not make sense–Putin knows very well the west via the US is after him–cauase of Syria–the US gambled with Ukraine and lost-it to Putin-so why would he Burn his fingers by blowing off an AIRCRAFT owned by a 3rd world country-the Russians dont have the courage for such.-those who can are the yankees-

  • TRUTH MASTER

Metuh is at it again, barely making sense in his interventions. Nigerians are smarter than you, Metuh. They know what is called strong-arm tactics. They know the power of dirty money on feckless lawmakers. They know the dangers posed to the polity by a President saddled with responsibility far beyond his capability. They also know that because the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was desecrated in their rush to remove Nyako, this will not stand the test of time.

    Olisa Metuh again.
Is this not the man that desecrated the rule book of a secondary school because of his son and gave the principal hell?
He can only be a mouth organ of PDP/NPN. God have mercy. He barely makes any good reason.

      All Progressives Congress (APC)

(They make it news when they
are victims let’s look at Tinubu, the face of ‘progressives’ in Nigeria,
Nyako Impeachment: What Bola Tinubu Did
To His “Disloyal” Deputies. APC Governor Murtala Nyako was Impeached
some days ago by PDP led members of Adamawa State House of Assembly.
Many observers including the opposition APC has been pointing fingers to
President Jonathan and the PDP for being the mastermind. However, let
us go down memory lane and analyse the “Deeds” of Former Lagos State
Governor and APC leader Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu towards his estranged
political subordinates- Specifically His Deputies. 1. AKERELE BUCKNOR
KOFOWOROLA: She was a Senator and Was elected alongside Bola Ahmed
Tinubu in 1999 on the AD platform. In 2002, she declared her Interest to
vie the 2003 Lagos State Governor seat against her boss. Bola Tinubu
was infuriated, he lobbied the Lagos State House to commence
impeachement proceedings against her. Buknor resigned her position as
Deputy Governor, she also left the party, Alliance for Democracy. That
was the last we heard of her politically. 2. Mr. FEMI PEDRO was picked
by Bola Tinubu in 2002 as Buknor’s successor. Jointly, they won 2003
Lagos Governorship election. After the formation of Action Congress by
majorly sponsored by Atiku Abubakar and Tinubu, Pedro Signified interest
to succeed his boss like others in the 2007 Guber election. Then
Governor Tinubu told all the contenders to support the Candidacy of his
Chief of Staff, Babatunde Raji Fashola. Pedro was adamant, he defected
to Labour Party. Next was IMPEACHMENT against Pedro by Lagos State
House. Sensing that he couldn’t survive the impeachment moves, he
RESIGNED his position as Deputy Governor of Lagos State on the day he
was to be IMPEACHED. However, Governor Tinubu refused to collect his
Resignation Letter…Few Minutes later, the House IMPEACHED him for
“Insubordination and Gross Misconduct”. Bola Tinubu OPENED the floodgate
for Political Witch-hunt. He was the FIRST Governor Since Lagos History
to Have 3 Deputies within a Span of 8 Years. Why is His Party
      complaining?)

(NIGERIA’S main opposition party the All Progressive Congress (APC) has hired another foreign public relations firm to take charge of its impending 2015 campaign at a whopping cost of $1.2m Keen to wrestle power from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) next year when Nigeria will hold general elections, the APC has hired the services of London public relations firm Burson-Marsteller at a cost of $1.2m. Under the terms of the contract, the image making company will handle all of the APC’s media campaigns for the next 12 months up to and beyond next year’s elections. Apparently, Ladi Delano of Delano Family Limited, one of the APC leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s close associates, signed the contract on May 12 on behalf of the party. Mr Delano, who was said to have met Asiwaju Tinubu during the APC leader’s recent medical treatment in the US, negotiated the deal worth $100,000 a month to Burson-Marsteller.)

A chieftain of the APC, who does not want his name in print since he is not the spokesman of the party and owing to the role he is currently playing in reclaiming the mandate, told our correspondent that in all honesty, it is difficult to defend Nyako. He said: “The issues were germane and stared people bare on the face. We could only advise him to run away and refused to be served the notice of impeachment. That was the best we could do for him.

“I can tell you that except for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, there was no other leader that was ready to come to his aide including General Muhammadu Buhari.

“Nyako was responsible for his impeachment, let me tell you how it began. Nyako was not popular as governor of Adamawa while he was in PDP and this had really helped other parties like CPC, and ACN and when the merger came to be, we stood our ground that Nyako should not join us. But the APC leaders at the centre insisted that we should receive him. We reluctantly accepted him but his coming to our party is a liability rather than an asset, his coming to the party has led many to defect back to the PDP.

“When his problems began, he was not listening to anyone and we left him to himself. He ran the government as a family estate and when the members were after him, everyone left him in the cold. But when it became obvious that he would be impeached, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar ran to one of our leaders, whom we have regard for, Engineer BD Lawal asking him to seek General Buhari’s intervention but General Buhari refused because of his integrity and credibility.

“He told BD Lawal that he would have intervened if Nyako’s offence has nothing to do with misappropriation and embezzlement. He told him I still have my name to protect. It was at this juncture we all gave up on Nyako,” he explained.

Speaking further, the source explained how Nyako acted against the advice given to him at home against asking for the extension of the tenure of the Acting Chief Judge, Ambrose Mammadi, adding that it was the extension that cost him his job.

According to him: “Before the impeachment began, we warned Nyako against extending the tenure of Mammadi and while we were happy that the Acting Judge tenure would expire before the inauguration of the panel, we did not know that Nyako had ask–NYAKO IS HISTORY
