Sanusi finally moves into Kano Emir’s palace

Emir has lodged at the Government House Kano, following reports of his possible arrest.

————————————–

The Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, has finally moved into his palace following the withdrawal of the police siege on the palace.

PREMIUM TIMES had reported how Mr. Sanusi’s apology to President Goodluck Jonathan led to the withdrawal of the police officers deployed to the palace.

Mr. Sanusi moved into the Government House, Kano, on Sunday after the state government reportedly received information that the new Emir was about to be arrested.

Emir of Kano and supporters

A Kano resident, Buhari Awwal, told PREMIUM TIMES that heavily armed security agents escorted the Emir to his palace a few minutes before the asr (late afternoon) prayers.

“Heavily armed policemen in armoured personnel carriers and a retinue of uniformed and non-uniformed vigilantes and, of course, the palace guards followed the Emir’s convoy,” he said.

He also said the emir was driven in a green coloured Rolls Royce with the plate number, ‘Amir Kano’.

PREMIUM TIMES had earlier reported that Mr. Sanusi personally spoke to the President, apologising for whatever “sin” he had committed so that he would be allowed to gain access to his palace.

A source at the presidency revealed, “Sanusi told the president he was sorry for anything he might have done wrong in the past and asked the president to consider him henceforth as a friend”.

The new emir also assured the president he would not be partisan during his reign, and would not aid the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, in any way, the source added.

Long live the emir of Kano, SLS

  • redeem

(If Lamido Sanusi were wise, he should spend some time reading the tea-leaves. Some people are already concluding that Sanusi is the new Emir by divine providence. However, appointments as Emir or even as Sultan are no longer sacrosanct. Mustapha Jokolo was removed as the Emir of Gwandu in 1995 and replaced by Mohammed Jega. Ibrahim Dasuki was removed as the Sultan of Sokoto in 1996 and replaced by Muhammadu Maccido.
Therefore, this is a piece of advice for the new Emir of Kano. Don’t bother to move your belongings into the Emir’s palace just yet. Don’t even bother to change the curtains or the carpets for now. You may not be on your throne for long. Thanks to Kwankwaso, the Kano Emirate has been politicized to all effects and purposes. Today, it is clearly in the APC camp. But if the APC lose the governorship election in Kano in February next year, it is not improbable that the Emirate will immediately be declared as a PDP terrain.
In that case, His Royal Highness, the new Emir of Kano, might end up with the same fate that befell him as CBN Governor. He might be summarily dismissed.) Aribisala

If indeed SLS begged GEJ…..as Premium Times reported, then a wise Emir has succeeded in outflanking an egoist President

    • Mosaku 147

He couldn’t have begged.PT did this to preempt security agents against been over zealous. One idiot commissioner or oc mopol might just have tried to embarrass Jonathan by arresting the Emir.
Imagine Mbu as Kano state police commissioner.

Once an outlet claims “exclusive” with news, always count your teeth your tongue!
We all know the type of person Emir Sanusi is… and know he once said he’s ready to die for his philosophy. Remember too, he once said he’s “ready to drive himself to jail”…
Methinks, Sanusi did not beg any Dumbo and the proof will come with his first swipe…
      Stay tuned!

      • greatbiodun

dont worry, Sanusi is a friend to everyone now

GEJ and his PDPigs finally defeated. His highness SLS has shown them how great thinkers handle egocentric despots.

    • idama

The Emir was sensible to beg the president! So no point rejoicing or insulting the president! Pls think before you talk!

    • cookie

lol… mumu… actually sanusi is lucky to have someone as meek as the president in power at this time… abacha removed dasuki and nothing happened… if sanusi had tried this under obasanjo… we wld have seen a totally different response.

      • Mosaku 147

Obj could not have stolen $20b at a go. He was and is still a thief but at least he didn’t succumb to terrorist in any guise.

        • cookie

dont also forget… sanusi was implicated and jailed in the 1995 be heading of gideon akaluka… so you have an emir who is both a murderer and a thief

        • cookie

since u believe that $20b is missing… go and find it… you can keep it. if you were smart you would have read the preliminary findings of the senate. even if money was unnaccounted… it far less than $20b and they used the technical term “TO BE RECONCILED” not stolen or missing

    • redeem

Sanusi is supposed to be in jail –a hard core thief if there is one-he has destroyed the stool-any thief can occupy it

      • Ahmad

U really need to b Redeemed and delivered from your myopic sentiments and palmy joint talk shop of “they say”, ” i heard that”. As blind and dumb as your pay master. Prove your assertion or keep off from where reasonable people discuss.

      • Ide4u

Deri Orbuka, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is our new Emir!! There is nothing you and your uncle GEJ can do about it. The only two options for you and your clueless uncle is to either hang yourselves or kiss Sanusi’s black ass.

    • Mosaku 147

      Correct.

  • Carl

As far as every right thinking Nigerian is concerned, Sanusi should be held accoutable to all the attrocities he committed. I was a strong supporter of this man until I got new findings about him, sentiments apart. Who actually led the team that BEHEADED GIDEON AKALUKA in the 1990s? This Sanusi is an exteremist and I think I want to start beliving he actually funded BokoHaram while he was at CBN. I am sure he will soon be treated like his grandfather. He will soon be deposed and arrested by interpol for crime against humanity for funding terrosists.

    • Fulani Nomad

Wendell Simlin! Wendell Simlin!! Wendell Simlin!!!. When did you start believing your own lies and mischief? God done catch you for this one.

      • Carl

Let’s be objective and face the facts. Was Sanusi actually involved in the BEHEADING OF GIDEON AKALUKA or not?

    • Mosaku 147

How old are you Carl? Where did you or who gave you the gist? At what beer parlor/garden? Don’t join in issues that are unverifiable. You just might be too young to know history .so please shut up!

      • Carl

Can you imagine your reply? Its so irritating and vapidly diversionary. What do you mean ‘issues that are unverifiable’? Someone was BEHEADED and the persons head was paraded all over the streets of kano. How come his name was mentioned in this crime if he was not involved? Google this story and come up with an objective reply.

        • Bala

Carl have you ever heard the phrase innocent until proven guilty?

          • Carl

I see hypocricy. Something is wrong. Double standard is what we call this. This is a case of man inhumanity to man.we should be real, firm and factual. It will not be too dificult for you to search newspapers and internet for news about this 1995 incident. The truth is what I am after. Anyboby fingered in a crime of that magnitute should be investigated, no matter how highly placed in the society. Whether the person is a Sultan,Emir,Oba,Obi,Igwe or even president or governor. They should be held accountable and brought to Justice.

          • Bala Abubakar

He was investigated and at a time was in prison awaiting trail, he was tried and no evidence was found against him.

    • Ahmad

Your “new findings” must be from your latest palmy joint where you sip, talk, sip and talk again or from PDP library of falsehood. Or what else are you trying to tell the world of our security and intelligence. I pity you.

  • CONGRATULATION TO SANUSI FOR BEGGING THE PRESIDENT

I want to take the liberty of assuming that this report is indeed true.
Anyone who has the conscience of God shall act the will of God. There is nothing absolutely wrong if Sanusi indeed begged the President. Why? Let’s hear what the Bible teaches concerning such act of reconciliation:

Matthew 5: 23-24 say, “Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

1Corinthians 6: 7 say, “Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated?”

If Sanusi truly begged the President, he’s only obeying the soft voice of God as we have read in His Holy Book. To Sanusi I say CONGRATULATION. God bless Nigeria.

    • Aderemi Adesokan Alao

..and when his Apostles begged him to teach them how to pray, Jesus presented FORGIVENESS as a basic condition for a genuine prayer: for if you forgive the tresspasser your heavenly father will also forgive you. Mattew 6:4 I hope all those who hate the new Emir of Kano read their holy book well.

This is so unreal. The police left after the end of the protests, as they were only protecting the palace from the protesters. Their withdrawal had nothing to do with any body’s warped imagination about any apology. I do not even think this story emanated from aso rock. They cant be that dumb. Or can they?

    • 100%Iboguy

I am tempted to agree with you that the writer is just practising how to write fictions.

  • greatbiodun

I congratulate the wise King Sanusi of Kano

  • Psalm 35

He must have read the history books and seen the enormous powers of the C in C, he must have gotten the message unlike his blind supporters who think emirship is immunity. He must have being reminded the story of how his father was dethroned and banished. He can be dethroned cast in jail and Sunusi Ado Bayero put in place and nothing will happen and SLS knows this hence he begged and apologised to GEJ.

    • Bala

And you definitely have not read the Nigerian constitution. Chieftaincy affairs are on the residual list of the constitution. It is off lot for the president. President either showed his disregard for the constitution, or his ignorance towards it. What the president has done is not something to be proud of. Sending the police to seal the palace was an act of impunity at its zenith. If he can stoop so low to something as inconciquentail as the emir ship of Kano, to what limit will he go to use the police and federal might to hold on to power come 2015. His action has vindicated Sanusu that he was fired bcs he asked for the whereabouts of the 20bn. Knowing that there was no criminality involved,Sanusi massaged GEJ’s ego and the dogs were called off.

      • Psalm 35

As long as that gives you satisfaction, you can relish in your imagination on my not having read the constitution. But since you are well read and versed in the constitution can you please point or refer me to the ‘residual list’ and were it is explicitly stated it is a no go area for the C in C…I await that referral but meanwhile, let me seize this opportunity to reassure you that the President has the whole of Nigeria as his constituency, there are no demarcations or restrictions as to where his constituency stops and this is specifically stated and confirmed in his oath of office as President of the Federal Republic; hence when a man of questionable character, morals and dismal financial management is made emir despite being under probe then somebody needs to be reminded that there is a system and their is a law which can be enforced, nobody is above the law especially the traditional institutions. Impunity or stooping low is a matter of opinion, but selective amnesia means you conveniently forgot this same man misappropriated over 270 billion naira in funds to mostly personal causes for which the CBN should never be involved as an apex regulating bank, he should thank his stars he wasn’t arrested, derobed and thrown in jail which is were he rightly belongs.

        • 100%Iboguy

Your argument does not support your claim. That is what the guy was trying to point out to you. If he indeed misappropriated 270 billion would any reasonable person take it that a CiC who took an oath of office would just be satisfied with a “begging” to let the scam go?

          • Kareem Haroun

Has your C in C Explained where goes the missing N20 billion dollars?
Are you sincerely convinced that Jonathan is the right man to rule us.
If you are so sure that N270 billion was missing in CBN, don’t you think, this federal government would have done all they could to jail him? They don’t have to wait till he becomes emir. Common sense, my brother, shows the insincerity.
SLS has been a man endowed with enviable knowledge, so if people who cannot match him at that level, are trying to pull him down, they can only do that by exhibiting their frustration on page comments like this, while Sanusi soars on.

        • Bala Datti

As long as you intend to make meaningful contributions to this page you should well read on the topic you intend to comment on. The Presidential system of Govt divides the powers between the centre and the states into three exclusive list which are ceded to the centre, concurrent shared between the centre and the state and residual which are that of the state alone. In a proper society, what GEJ did is assault on the good people of Kano State. I am not one to key into conspiracy theories without facts, bit the more I remember what happened in Kano the more i see the hands of Govt. 1. The ruling party went ahead to congratulate the other contender without due diligence.2. The denied Some dignitaries use of their private jets on hearing it was Sanusi nominated.3.The govt withdrew most of the police contingent guarding the Kano State Gov. 4, The police sealed the irs palace making it possible for the new emir to relocate dr. GEJ, knows that his ineptitude is not important to his supporters, he is confident no matter what he does, his army of blind and myopic supporters will follow him blindly and person that dares disagree with will be labeled Boko Haram or a tribalist. Education is meant to widen your periscope and broaden your horizon to be analytical

    • 100%Iboguy

So Jonathan is such a du.bhead, vindictive and egoistical perspn that just begging him would have resolved any difference between him and Sanusi. I thought if he had any differences with Sanusi it would have been on matter of principle and good governance but not of ego massaging of begging.

I am 100% sure that all reasonable people would still expect Jonathan to act as an intelligence and reasonable person and not drop all the allegations against Sanusi because Sanusi has apologised to him.

    • Kareem Haroun

Sanusi is just a man of wisdom and deep knowledge; he knows his history and we don’t have to be the ones to remind him; The peak of intelligence is when one stoops to conquer. That was what he did. The circumstance that led to SLS’ grandfather’s removal was different; presently, the laws of Kano state is the only one that can remove an Emir. A president cannot sack or remove an Emir, except the governor. And the governor in Kano is not the one that will do that now, for apparent reasons.
Sanusi has not in any way offended the President, rather the president was the one on the offensive, because he did not want him ascend the throne of his fathers. What crime could that be? Was it Sanusi’s fault that the Kano Kingmakers selected him amongst the three eminent candidates? Was it his fault that he was favored among the three contenders?
So what crime has he committed? Nothing, absolutely nothing. So if King SLS should call the president and say “I want to enter my palace, the palace of my fathers, and your men are preventing me from doing that; please tell them to leave so that I can go in; or if they are there because I have wronged you in anyway, please forgive and forget, because I am now an Emir and not a public servant or politician, who is ready to work with you”. If that is what Sanusi said, then he is a man of great wisdom, a clear cut leader and a patient man. He used diplomacy to achieve what others thought required boots and bullets. No blood was shed, or properties destroyed as he triumphantly enter the palace gate just as a full blooded prince does.
Wisdom, well deployed can make anything happen.

Indeed, this clearly show to Nigerians home and in diaspora and the whole wide World that president Ebele Jonathan, is devious, vindictive, wicked and the brain behind most current problem befalling Nigeria. All kind of strange occurrences continue to befall Nigeria, ever since president Ebele Jonathan gotten into Nigeria presidency.
Anyway,it could all be traced back to former president Olusegun Obasanjo, who brought the clueless, ineffective, ineptitude and moron Ebele Jonathan, from Bayelsa State after Obasanjo deposed former Bayelsa State governor,Alamiyeseagha from office.Nothing good or of benefit have the people of Nigeria derived from Ebele Jonathan except massive corruption.
There is no security of life and property for Nigerians,no regular power, healthcare services are archaic,no peace, prosperity and progress in the land.Millions of Nigerians are hopeless while trillions of annual budget yields nothing good for Nigeria as the foundation of Nigeria is shaking to the roots.
Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is the right man for the Kano emirate stool and he will handle his throne with wisdom, care for his community and work for the progress and development of his emirate inhabitants.
