The suspects were accused of trafficking a 12-year-old.
The Nasarawa State command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, on Tuesday paraded two suspects accused of child trafficking and specialised in engaging children for child labour.
Parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Lafia, the commandant, Andekin Andrew, said the suspects, Mariam Kaigama and Muhammed Idon, were apprehended after they engaged a 12-year-old, Rashida Musa, for child labour in Agwada development area of the state.
Mr. Andrew said that his men on patrol picked Ms. Musa on the streets of Agwada and after an investigation found out that she was engaged for child labour by the prime suspect, Ms. Kaigama.
Mr. Andrew said that the arrest of Ms. Kaigama also led to the apprehension of Mr. Idon, the second suspect.
“Mariam Kaigama is in the habit of collecting children from their parents and giving them out to people who engage them in hard labour.
“But luck ran out on her when she collected 12-year-old Rashida Musa from her mother and took her to Agwada development area. My men on patrol found little Rashida on the street of Agwada and after picking her found out that she was brought for child labor,” he said.
The command said that after interrogation, the second suspect Mr. Idon confessed to the crime.
He said investigation was still on-going and advised parents to be careful of the people they give their children to.
“After concluding our investigation, we will prosecute those found wanting to serve as deterrent to others who engage in such crimes,” he said.
