Mr. Abubakar is 36 years old and is not yet married.
A new Emir of Gombe has been appointed.
Shehu Abubakar, the second son of the late emir, Shehu Abubakar, who died in London last week and was buried in Gombe on May 30, is the new emir.
The new emir’s selection was carried out by the newly reconstituted Kingmakers Council and approved by the Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo.
Mr. Abubakar was among the eligible contenders to the throne who were engaged in intense lobbying to emerge emir.
The Hausa service of the Voice of America reported that Mr. Abubakar is 36 years old and is not yet married.
Others who lobbied to be the new emir included the new emir’s elder brother, Yahaya Abubakar, who is a Director in the Presidency, as well as Zubairu Mohammed and Jalo Daudu.
A source within the emirate council who declined to be named because he has no permission to speak on the matter said the new emir was groomed by his late father to succeed him despite his young age. He also said that was the major consideration by the kingmakers.
