Jonathan blames APC governors for Boko Haram insurgency

President Goodluck Jonathan

President accuses APC governors of non-performance.

President Goodluck Jonathan has again reiterated the position of the Federal Government and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that governors of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, are the cause of insurgency in their states.

Speaking at the 65th meeting of the PDP National Executive Committee, NEC, in Abuja on Thursday, Mr. Jonathan said there was insecurity in the APC controlled states because the governors had not performed, unlike their counterparts in the PDP.

Although several states across party lines in Northern Nigeria have suffered from the activities of the Boko Haram insurgents, Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe are most affected. The three states are governed by the APC.

Mr. Jonathan blamed the APC governors saying their poor performance in office fuelled the insurgency.

“There is no insurgency in PDP states because the governors are performing,” he said.

The President also took a swipe at some governors who last year defected to the APC from the ruling party, saying “some people have left, but we are not missing them.”

The president said the governors who left were unpopular in their states that they could not win even ward elections if held.

He also said he never expressed any doubt or fear that the defection or crisis the party experienced in the past would affect its fortune.

Mr. Jonathan also said his government, working in conjunction with the party, has mapped out strategies to bring an end to the menace of the Boko Haram sect.

“Very soon, Boko Haram will be history,” he said.

He said the National Security Adviser, NSA, was invited on Tuesday and Wednesday to the meetings of the PDP Caucus and the Board of Trustees, where the NSA briefed members on the progress being made in the fight against terrorism.

The president added that the NSA was not invited to the NEC because “it is too open and security matters cannot be discussed in minutes of this nature”.

The chairman of the PDP, Adamu Muazu, said the party had successfully overcome its challenges and was poised to regain its lost glory.

He said he would soon constitute a fund raising committee for the party, and host a fund raising dinner towards the completion of the party’s permanent secretariat.

Mr. Muazu said he would also appoint a governing board for the Peoples Democratic Institute, PDI, an institution he said was similar to only that of South Africa’s ANC.

National convention after Ramadan fast

Meanwhile, part of the resolutions of the NEC was to move the National Convention of the Party, earlier slated for Saturday, June 14, till after the Ramadan fast.

The NEC also adopted corrections to errors noticed in its 2012 amended constitution.

It also passed a vote of confidence on President Jonathan over the manner he is handling the Boko Haram insurgency.

  • wissy

This is wrong from a President. Too bad

  • M Ajonye

What a self indictment by mr dumbo! Really, you can’t be serious, are you the president pdp states or Nigeria ?

  • johansen

    Total joke, this man sef.

  • Mahmoud Lawal

Gosh, what a petty President. This guy called Dumbo Jonah is a serious nut case. He belongs to a mental hospital, not the outside world. The fact that he is Nigeria’s President is an embarrassment to all serious minded Nigerians.

    • Jelili

You are on point and correct.I think he needs advise serious advise. I am thinking he should appoint Mohamadu Buhari as his adviser on security matters.

    • Wale

He should be replaced by Charles Soludo,Ken Nnamani or Donald Duke

  • adegbola

I wonder if this man think at all before coming to the public to talk, is bauchi, gombe, katsina, Abuja, and other places control by Apc and what has pdp government done to compare with ACN states in the south south. Chaii dearis god oooooo

    • arewethishopeless

Shame! Jonathan does not even feel the need to hide low IQ. Only cheap petty street criminals think like this. Gosh !!!!

      • Harry

Shagari was as dump as Jonathan during his time if not even worse. His IQ was very low as well. Shagari was not prepared to be president. The only thing he cares about is his Islamic religion. So why do we want to keep insulting Jonathan. If Jonathan is a dump it means every Nigerian is a dump ass because he is our president. He became the president by our votes. So what’s the issue! We like electing dump people as leaders

        • Tonnero

The word is “dumb” not “dump”.

          • danny

            chai!!! Harry don finish…

        • Babs

No, Gej has confirmed that he is president of PDP, not of Nigeria. So it’s you and PDP members that are dumb ass not Nigerians. I didn’t vote him and i am not proud of him being my president. He is clueless, callous ,wicked and incompetent .

          • Harry

You little thing! This is democracy. Majority carrires the vote. Majority of Nigerians voted Jonathan just like majority of Nigerians voted a dumb, clueless and incompetent Shagari in 1979 instead of an astute leader like Awolowo. So, boy, it a Nigerian thing and history is repeating itself. Unfortunately there is nothing you as aperson can do about it. It is Jonathan till 2019. APC shoul wait till 2100….pronto

          • Babs

Hear you, you wrote “This is democracy. Majority carries the vote. Majority of Nigerians voted Jonathan just like majority of Nigerians voted a dumb, clueless and incompetent Shagari in 1979 instead of an astute leader like Awolowo”. It’s unfortunate that majority of Nigerians voted Jonathan in 2011 instead of a more experienced, venerable and competent Buhari. You are so myopic and sentimental.

          • Harry

Buhari of all people??? My friend sit your little ass down. Buhari was also incompetent even as a Military leader; that was why it was so easy to take power from him. Apart from that, he also has disgusting religious leanings. Imagine a former leader saying ‘Muslims should vote for someone that will protect their faith’. For me, I still see a link between Buhari and BH boys. I also believe Jonathan is weak and should be replaced but I cannot see anybody coming up as an alternative. I could have expected PDP bringing Ken Nnamani, Charles Soludo or Donald Duke to replace him but that is unlikeley to happen. Ameachi, Oshiomole, Fashola or Okorocha from APC would have also won my approval as a relacement to a weak leader like Jonathan, but, APC has greater issues including Islamism and desperation so, that might never happen. So far, it has been like once a very corrupt politician Joins APC, he becomes a saint. Just imagine Atiku, Saraki, Oyinlola, Nyako etc calling themselves progrssives. I dey laugh ooo. So, 2015 election will be as smooth for Jonathan as 2011 election .(If there are typos in my post you can just act as my assistant and correct)

          • Babs

Thanks for acknowledging that the Dumbo GEJ is a weak leader. That’s all we want you to say. Period!

          • Babs

I am happy that you reasoned and accepted the correction that is made to you that the correct spelling of the word is DUMB and not DUMP. I am also happy that you use the word “majority” instead of “every Nigerian”. Having said this, i advise you to take it easy and wait for 2015 and see how Jonathan will be disgraced in the polls. Then you can outburst your anger at the right thinking Nigerians who voted him out.

        • Babs

Please you need tutorials on spelling. DUMB not DUMP!

    • Afolabi

The man is not smart but unfortunately we don’t have any alternative. He does not just have oratory talent. Most of those APC guys are not doing notthing in their states, they feed fat on their states but they have the advantage that they can talk and excite the puplic. I don’t think APC will bring any credible person to stand against him in 2015. APC members are as corrupt as PDP members. They are just pack of people hungry for power at all cost. They are waiting for an opportunity to suck this country like they did to their states; just imagine Bola Tinubu or Atiku. The Ekiti election will shoe the APC their stand in SW. I expect PDP to replace Jonathan with Charles Soludo or Ken Nnamani

      • Tonnero

I think you live on Mars.

  • Lanre

Some people have various names for Goodluck Jonathan. Some call him Dumbo, others call him different names. I have called him clueless and directionless and have also identified Olusegun Obasanjo as the progenitor of the crisis of leadership that Nigeria is today facing. He and Ibrahim Babangida and for good reason too.
Young Nigerians need to go and read about Nigerian History. In January 1966, some young officers carried out a bloody coup in a reaction to the shenanigans of the political ruling class. In 1983, a crop of senior military officers carried out a pre-emptive bloodless coup again as a result of the failure of the ruling political class. The military itself failed. Why? Young Nigerians go and sit down and ask yourselves those hard questions.
Today, Goodluck Jonathan is an abysmal, total and disgraceful failure. He is fit to be the Chairman of Otuoke Local Government in Bayelsa State (If there is a local government by such a name). His failure, which is most exemplified by this statement that an insurgency is the result of actions of members of an opposition party shows that Jonathan is not fit to continue ruling Nigeria. Ofcourse, there are some of us who see Nigeria as an artificial, imaginary creation. But still, human blood should not be shed as it is in Nigeria. Over 3,000 Nigerians have been killed this year alone. I call on the National Assembly (if they have any conscience) to impeach Jonathan Now. Remove this man before the damage becomes irreversible. Remove Jonathan Now!!!!

    • Wale

And replace him by who? I laugh at your suggestion. Do you think the South South people will take it funny. You are playing with fire that can explode the whole country.

      • Lanre

Mr. Wale South-South. I usually don’t do this. That is respond to comments made about my posts. I make an exception here. I know the game Obasanjo played to deal with the North. Put a South-South man there (where all the oil money that they steal comes from) and then see what happens. The reason Nigerians are slaves. Let the games continue and more innocent people be sacrificed……

        • Tonnero

Lanre, but you are not correct. Obasanjo put a Northerner, Yar’Adua, there. Unless you are saying Obasanjo either has a hand in Yar’Adua’s death or KNEW he would die. Anything is, of course, possible but you have to admit that is speculative at best.

          • Lanre

Ha, Ha. Tonnero. Please leave me and Obasanjo alone, lol. I have been studying his wily ways since 1977. To be in a circle of devils, you must be a devil yourself. Let us just leave the discussion about Obasanjo at that.

          • Tunji Olarewaju

My brother, what’s speculative about that?Obasanjo knew Yar’adua had a terminal disease! He cleverly appointed GEJ as the VP(in that infamous ‘do or die” selection 2007)knowing fully well the man( Yar’adua)wouldn’t be able to sustain the rigor of that office. In fact, Obj murdered Yar’adua. Now, see where all his(Obj’s) shenanigans has landed us

          • redeem

so what was the objective of obj in imposing late Yara on 9ja–to destroy her abi–does what u have posted make sense to yr yoruba head-jonathan has achieved more for nigeria–than one million Ibbs 50 trillion objs-

          • Tunji Olarewaju

Yes, he has achieved more, by allowing rogues like you to loot, pillage and murder innocent Nigerians with impunity

          • Tonnero

Interesting view. However, I think you are giving OBJ more powers than he has by assuming he would know that Yar’Adua would die just under three years after taking power. Of course, there is the issue of what would be OBJ’s motive in Yar’Adua dying? I think it is simpler to assume that things simply played out the way they did rather than that he had this infallible way of predicting future outcomes. But, here I am now the one speculating.

          • Tunji Olarewaju

My brother, this is not rocket science, the man couldn’t sustain the rigors of campaigning, let alone have the capability to sustain the office. Katsina state has the best kidney dialysis equipment in the country because of his health status, and he was only a governor then. Yes, Obj couldn’t accurately predict Yaradua’s death, but one doesn’t need to be a nuclear scientist to know the man wouldn’t last the whole hog, either

          • Es3

Lanre simply has no answers to your questions, as such he will dodge it!

      • Es3

        Don’t mind Lanre!

He thinks the crude oil that his state receive every month from FG is the desire of the Niger Delta people??? If not for the fact that Jonathan is there, he would have SEEN the truth with his own eyes by now!

I have been to whole of that zone and done extensive investigations. What I put forward on and off this forum are for real and those who think that the Niger Delta people cannot do anything they threaten should better start planning to run Nigeria without their crude oil money, if Jonathan is removed from that seat!

Now, there is some money to fight Boko Haram? By then there shall be no money pay salaries and Boko Haram will have a free run wherever ethnic militias cannot check them!!!

        • Onyeali.

Bullshit. The oil belongs to all Nigerians. And that’s coming me from the SE.

          • Es3

No problem, just pray very hard that it does not get there?!

On the other hand, just keep bullshitting until that bullshit hit the fan in motion, then you will know how much of bullshit you been bullshitting all along!

Then you will be reminded that there was a revenue sharing formula before crude oil was discovered in the Niger Delta and what happened to the formula after that?!

          • Slapstick

Onyeali, forget mata. All na gra gra. Oil belongs to all Nigerians abi? Leave it at that for now.

    • Angryman

      Point of order
You didn’t tell us if you have conflict of interest on this issue
Simply put , what is your relationship with APC
With that we can appraise your statement appropriately

      • Tonnero

Have you declared your own? So anyone who wants to make a post should state which party he/she supports? do you think it is impossible to support APC and criticize it or support PDP and criticize it? Why don’t you focus on whether you agree with what he is saying or not? Truly, you Nigerians deserve no better than you are getting. May you all continue to enjoy the status quo until your eyes open. I would also pray that other countries stop issuing visas to Nigerians so they can stay home and enjoy the soup they are cooking for themselves rather than running away to other places after they have destroyed their own land with ethnicity, nepotism, religious intolerance, corruption and gross incompetence.

        • Thepeople

          Correct !

        • Angryman

I think if the situation warrants it ,one should declare his interest on a subject matter
I did just that two days ago in one of my comments
I believe you read his comment and the tone of his expression
That could only have come from an APC apologist – the enemy of the state
Though it would have been interesting if he claims to be a PDP
Unfortunatly you are so much in a hurry to know whether I agree with hm or not
Whether we are issued visas or not we will still enjoy our soup
We are enjoying one presently , possibly cooked or financed by A*C
Your ration is reserved for you – enjoy

        • redem

How old is Nigeria–what u are saying that started with the government of gej triblaism–abi–what split the yorubas ati ibos–via zik-u always look for excuses to justify yr failures in life-is Jonathan the first president of nigeria-was obj and atiku now in APC not there for 8 yrs-separation is the only answer to our troubles–freedom in poverty is better than slavery Under our riches in d niger delta-

          • Tonnero

You keep going back to what did not work in the past. Are you saying we should not try to do things better simply because they were done badly in the past? I can understand that you want to defend Jonathan and the PDP but the best way to do so is to ask him to stop making so many unforced errors and to take charge. He was elected C-in-C. The buck stops at his desk. All these excuses do not help anyone. He was elected to solve problems not tell us who created the problems. If it is beyond him to solve those problems WHATEVER THEY ARE, WHOEVER CREATED THEM AND WHENEVER THEY WERE CREATED, he should have the decency to step aside. Not rocket science.

      • Lanre

Mr. Angryman. You should be called Mr. Jokerman, lol. Obviously from what Goodluck Jonathan has just said, it is very important to take what Olisa Metuh, Reno Omokri, Asari Dokubo and Edwin Clark say seriously. It is now clear where their messages are coming from. No problem. Let the innocent continue to die while you all continue smoking your cigars dipped in you know what……..

        • Efe1

I find it very hard that a whole president of the most populous black nation in the world would talk like this. What really is wrong with GEJ? Was he a let my people go throughout his educational life? I suppose education is meant to change you, it seems to have made him worse

          • redeem

he spoke truth boko haram insurgecy< started from the ANPP controlled states in the fulani north-challenge him on that-are members of ANPP not with APC now–i begi make we hear better word-

          • Efe1

If GEJ is sane and has real balls, why not arrest charge and prosecute these boko haram members in APC or where ever? You seem to be as senseless as metuh and all those attack dogs of GEJ.

        • Angryman

I simply asked you to declare your relationship with APC because your statement is what one would expect from the opposition
If such a statement were to come from a PDP member then one would have known tha it was not politically motivated
So whatever othes have said has no bearing with my comment
          I remain Angryman

      • Es3

Of course knows that what Jonathan said about his APC and their governors of the north east is nothing but the truth!

That is why he is looking for ways to divert the attention of Nigerians from the cogent issues raised by the President to somewhere else?!

    • Omo Oodua

Crazy man, with all your grammar, you ended up constituting a nuisance of yourself. Agbero!

    • Es3

      Directionless ramblings again???

If your reason is insurgency, have you reasoned on how easy it is to cure someone that does not want a cure that when you remove a barb he replaces that with ten barbs behind your back??? Try on yourself and report back on how successful you were and we will analyze your success together?!

Additional, basic economics tells that resources are inelastic (exhaustible or as having limits). So when you apply so much of that resources to removing of self-inflicted barbs, how of it would have left for others?!

Even with that, Jonathan is doing the much he has done of which some like you will never see no matter what!!!

    • redeem

He spoke truth to the lungs of APC clowns in the far fulani north–close to the cameroon borders–ati the ones in the South west–what did we achieve from obj— is it light–roads or good education–what is it-idiot –insurgency started from ANPP controlled states when Buhari was their leader in 2003-while obsanjo yr yoruba brother was president-the satanic activities of the boko haram killer squad are more pronounced in the states Under emergecy rule–cant u understand simple English-u the yorubas just go about insulting d president wirth yr blood stained mouths–So the red Chibok T shirt is now the symbol of yoruba resistance in 9ja abi? Very sad indeed-Now worn by the Yorubas in APC to pull down d president–where was Buhari when Kudirat was gunned down by abachas men-where was atiku-the Red T shirts are also being worn by those who pulled the trigger that snuffed life out of Kudirat-and her husband–Abiola–It was the fulani north that sent hired assassins-same as APC is using boko haram killers to chase chase Jonathan-and to mass murder 9jas in d Fulani North-see why we are where we are-as a nation? those who killed Kudirat are now d friend of the yorubas–we allow regional sentiments to over-ride our sense of justice and unity if we have any in 9ja-let us in remembrance of kudirat be told that we can never be one again–We prefer freedom in poverty than slavery in our riches-let my ppl go-Any who does not share the same tribal marks with u is regarded as a d devil-abi-show us the things that Obj did beyond sleeping with his sons wife–rather have u think of how yr leaders can work to get rid of the human sacrifce that the yorubas indulge in-u are here abusing d president-dont even vote for Jonathan-with yr leprosy fingers–we want to go period-

    • King Carlos

you are absolutely right, He goes to France and says Boko Haram is al qaeda, he comes home and says Boko Haram is APC. Is our president clueless or he is just playing politics with people’s lives. Please we need to get him out.

  • Anthony Igweze

This man called Mr. President is really confused.comparing Apc States with Pdp States. What an irony.

    • Tonnero

Compare that to an Obama who said there are no blue states (democratic) or red states (republican) but only the United States of America. How can you lead a country when you constantly sow division along ethnic, regional and religious lines. It is like a coach who wants to win the champions league but is constantly causing division in his team!

  • bawa

Its seems mr président has retentive Memory, let me help him out, the killing of over 200 innocent souls in katsina state it occurrence is bcos of lack of performance, madalla bomb blast in Niger state, Jaji military barrack bomb blast and other several bomb blasts all in Kaduna state, the twin blast @ Nyanya nko, the récent one in jos, plateau state etc were they all bcos of non performance by the various state governors? Haba oga jona! Think, chew b4 u utter any state ment in public.

    • Tonnero

Even if he thinks from now until tomorrow, his statements will not be different. Nothing dey the man head. You cannot give what you do not have.

      • bawa

Then he rather keep quiet than throwing bomb on himself. To ne Frank, his media aids are not doing their homework properly.

    • Babs

Well said Bawa. But i don’t think Mr. Dumbo has the brain and the intellect to recollect these incidents. I think ogogoro has already damaged his thinking faculty. This is clearly evident from his words and actions.

  • Kaneel

You know what, I think a step closer to the solution is to fist remove this man as president an then Remove all former presidents, former governors and ministers from this contry( chase them away or kill them like it happened in Ghana). Same for all former Army generals, Director generals, CBN governores ant to military and government officials. Then allow top class technochrats Nigerians fron top universities in the world- Havard, MIT, Oxford etc.. To take over the governance of the country.

    • Tonnero

I have always said and I repeat, the problem is not really poor education but a complete lack of integrity. If you bring a smart thief, he will steal you blind and you will not know it. After all, Chimaroke Nnamani is a very educated man who had a medical practice in the US but he can not be compared to an Aminu Kano who was less educated but had his heart in the right place.

  • Adoki

Now I finally agree with the people who say this country is drifting inexorably towards the abyss. Is this the president of the FRN speaking? President and C-in-C? Is he really speaking as the leader of Nigeria especially in this very crucial moment in our national history? It is not possible that I am reading this! I can’t even dignify this statement with specific reference to or comment on the subject of the president’s statement. This is unbelievable! Simply incredible!!!

  • Mr. P

There we go again, with the obnoxiously senseless rhetoric of a moronic president. What an abominable being that he is! Each time I try, but I can’t just help the growing hatred for this beast called Jonathan. Cursed be the he was born.

Imagine! With the untold hardships bedeviling the people of Nigeria, especially in the NE, this is all the irrational jack-ass has to say! This had been his feeling and thinking all this while. Little wonder he went dancing in Kano over the blood and abduction of Nigerians. The animal didn’t even care how much discord his statement could imbue among fellow compatriots. All he cares is his diabolical quest for a second term. Werray! Oloriburuku!

Well, I won’t blame him much. You don’t expect an arsonist to be a firefighter. I blame the despicable human beings that we are in this country; a people who have no apprehension for the future and that of their children. Surely, a people get the kind of leaders they deserve. I can tell, over 90% of us are just like this clueless imbecile. Oh, what a doomed country.

    • Sword of Damocles

Your comments bring warmth to my heart. Spoken as it is, no embellishment. i do however think the number is no more than 30%. Most Nigerians I fervently believe yearn for leadership that would elicit pride. keep up the good work

  • There is nothing warm, reassuring, soothing, inspiring or bridge building in the president’s speech as is reproduced in this report. Rather, one can perceive hate and division running through the speech. By comparing PDP and non-PDP states in terms of security is at best divisive. One of the first things you will learn in health education is not to compare people because it doesn’t motivate people and it doesn’t solve problems. It is more help to analyse people and their peculiar situations for intervention. By comparing PDP and non-PDP states, the president is trying to promote some states and degrade others. The president’s speech is capable of raising the political temperature by a notch. I don’t think we need this at this time.

It has been said often that the governors of Adamawa, Yobe and Borno are not doing enough. The president has just repeated the same thing himself in this speech. Yesterday Pa Clark lamented the non-removal of these governors and attributed that to the lingering boko haram crisis. They keep on saying these governors are not doing enough and this has become a chorus in the mouth ministers and PDP officials. Other Nigerians including journalists have also joined in the singing of this stale chorus. But my questions are as follows and I would like to request other Nigerians to join me in asking the questions. What exactly are these governors supposed to do that they are not doing? Are they supposed to buy light and heavy guns, operational vehicles, attack helicopters, night vision equipment, paying the salaries and allowance of soldiers living or dead, buy uniforms and boots, provide training to the troops, provide intelligence, mobilise the people to fight the insurgents, provide communication equipment and provide food. Are they supposed to assemble and perhaps lead a delegation to negotiate with or confront boko haram? What really are they supposed to do that they are not doing? What memorandum of understanding between the governors and the security forces that these governors are not keeping to? What role have they been assigned that they are failing or have failed to carry out adequately?
It is not helpful other than maybe blackmail to keep on saying they are not doing enough without telling them or Nigerians what they have failed to do.

A Chinese cultural anthropologist compared African culture with western culture and concluded that whereas western culture is analytical, African culture is synthetic. The western culture does not see a forest but the trees, shrubs, herbs and the fauna that make up the forest. One the other hand, African culture tends to see the forest and not the trees and the rest that make up the forest. This Chinese assertion is playing out here. Our leaders and the supposedly learned ones are seeing that these governors are not doing enough, but they cannot see and communicate specific things the governors are supposed to do that they are not doing. So how can the nation solve its problems if the people that matter most have synthetic view of issues?

I think the president is concerned about PDP too much. He is the president of the entire country not only of PDP. The poor masses in Bomadi in Delta State want to hear reassuring word of comfort from the president, likewise the masses in Keffi in Nasarawa State and Yakoko in Taraba. Taraba state is one of the poorest states in the country where majority of the people particularly in the rural areas do not have access to clean water. Eight out of ten children in rural Taraba state do not have clean clothes to wear. These people are hungry for dynamic leadership that will improve their lives not the talk from the president about who defected and did not defect from PDP. May God, out of His infinite mercy, help Nigeria out of this mess. May He also for the sake of the innocent and powerless ones quench the fire of insurgency rising in the east.

    • Oweja

Spot on Brother! Kudos for your comment

    • Angryman

I think you are confusing two different situations regarding the insurgency
Let me begin by saying that the headline is a little misleading
It gives the impression of APC being the sponsor of Boko Haram
But the story says they are fuelling the insurgency
“Mr. Jonathan blamed the APC governors saying their poor performance in office fuelled the insurgency.
“There is no insurgency in PDP states because the governors are performing,” he said.’
This is not the first time the Presidet will make such a statement
It would be recalled that many people have blamed the insurgency on poverty and unemployment
Others have said that unemployment provide Boko Haram with ready recruits
So , who do you blame for the poverty and unemployment
The states collect huge sums of money every month as allocation
They didn’t create employment for the people and they didn’t send the children to school
What have they been doing with the money
That state of emergency is only in those states controlled by APC shows they are the worst affected
This is one aspect of the insurgency which the President is referring to
The other aspect is the mobilization of the people and other things the state government can do to bring the insurgency to an end
This was what Mr Maku was talking about which is a little different from what the President is talking about in this instance

      • My brother the question is how has the poor performance of the governors fuelling the insurgency? Even if the governments in the region had not performed “well”, with the continuous blame end the insurgency. Now let’s see the absolute poverty rates among the geopolitical zones for 2010 as released by the office of the Statistician-General of the Federation’s office:

        Absolute Poverty Rate
        North Central 59.5
        North East 69.0
        North West 70.0
        South East 58.7
        South South 55.9
        South West 49.8

Judging by these figures, the North West is the poorest, and state by state analysis of the report indicated that the people of Sokoto State are the poorest in the country. Sokoto State has always been PDP. Secondly there is no insurgency in Sokoto State. North Central is marginally better than North East and North West, yet there is no insurgency there. Even the South-South and the South-East, despite the all the noise about oil, more than half of the people there live in absolute poverty.

You can see that poverty is not the only cause of insurgency in the north east; there are other factors such as extreme ideology on how society should be governed and perhaps the right environment devoid of effective social control and security.

Going by these figures and other evidences on ground, the President is not correct to say PDP states are doing better and that poor performance of governors of the North East is the factor fuelling the insurgency.

May I ask? What amenities are the people in Awka in Anambra State enjoying that the people living in Maiduguri or Yola are not enjoying? How is life better for the people living in Yenegoa in Bayelsa than Damanturu in Yobe? Are the roads in the whole of Ebonyi State better than the roads in Borno State? Which states in Nigeria will you find employment? How many jobs governor Obi create before leaving office? Where are the figures and the source? Poverty is everywhere you go in Nigeria.

The president and his team should stop singing this irritating song of some governors not doing enough to contain boko haram. They should accept that the security forces are not well equipped enough to defeat boko haram and do the needful. God bless.

        • Angryman

          Thanks for your reply
There are different theories to this insurgency
As I stated , some people believe poverty and unemployment are the backbone of the insurgency
The Northern elders including the ex-CBN Governor SLS and the American government are in this group
Even our President once said the insurgency had nothing to do with religion
I had to disagree with him on that
May be he was trying to be politically correct
I think your figures support the view of some of us that poverty is not the driving force behind the insurgency
In defeating Boko Haram I think both the State and Federal governments [ in fact everybody] have a role to play

It is clear now that president Ebele Jonathan and his corrupt-ridden,ineffective,clueless,incompetent,non-performing and non-focus regime is seriously sick, moron and non-intelligence by wrongly accusing opposition-APC state-governors as the cause of Boko Haram insurgency.Boko Haram insurgents began under late president Umaru Musa Yar’dua who ordered for the execution of the founder of Boko Haram insurgents then.
This clueless, ineffective, incompetent and kindergarten President Ebele Jonathan was the vice-president of late Yar’dua.President Ebele Jonathan is suffering from character-credibility.Very dubious, fake and lacking leadership stature.Nigeria would not continue with incapable,intellectual-incapabiloity leadership beyond may 29,2015.Enough of axis of massive corruption and ineffective crooks in governance.

  • Bigtin

Twisted headline! No where in his speech did the President made the statement that your headline connotes. Either President Goodluck or Premium Times, I hate it when individuals & organisations thrive and relish on propagating falsehood.

  • clairvoyance

Not surprise nothing good will ever come out from u. Dark as a devil u just confirmed urself as the president of the poverty development party.

  • Okikiola Beckley

UN office,Police Hdqtrs and Nyaya motor park are also in APC states Mr. President? Usually politics is set aside when it comes to a major security issue, you and your advisers should be schooled enough in these basics to know this.

    • Babs

Thank you Beckley. Don’t mind this Mumu man. He and the people around him are hypocrites.

  • Omo Oodua

Premium Times, were you at the PDP NEC meeting or how do u know all these your false statements were said by GEJ? Am sure President Jonathan couldn’t have meant what you people wrote as your captioned, you just wanted to cause more problems in this country. If we start see more attacks in PDP controlled Northern States, surely you would be held responsible because you actually fueled this mayhem. Why didn’t you shameless people report what President Jonathan said about the media celebrating terrorism? You people at Premium Times definitely know that you are the No 1 online media outfit that celebrate terrorism because that is what you have been paid to do. It would have been catastrophic for you if you reported it because people would have attacked you heavily. You are always happy when you hear people being killed by boko haram because that is the only thing you people love reporting. Am sure Premium times is always aware of any impending bomb blast because you are always the first to report it. there was a time one of your reporters was at a scene of a bomb blast in Borno 20 minutes before the bomb went off. This means that your reporter knew about the impending attack but chose to wait for it to happen so as to be able to give you blow by blow accounts instead of reporting to the security operatives. President Jonathan has told you the truth, STOP CELEBRATING TERRORISM!

Do you watch TV…The socalled meeting was allowed to be filmed by newsmen. Hide your head in shame.

Watch out for new Hilux Pickup Vans labeled; COCIN or ECWA Headquarters” but property of Boko Haram which are said to have been brought to Jos and other states to deceive Christians for attack. Be aware. Please pass it to friends and families.

Someone sent this message to my phone this morning. I’m sure the message must have been sent to phones of a million Chrisitians. The message does not indicate the originating source and makes even more doubtful. Unfortunately, the president’s speech can encourage this sort of text messages to go round Christians. . I think this message is coming from people who are seeking to make gains from the crisis between Christians and Muslims and are probably based in Jos because the Headquarters of the churches mentioned are in Jos and have more than a million members. The source could also be in any nearby state. Evil minds are on the loose in the country. While all of us, Christians and Muslims, should be alert to terrorists’ activities we must not forget that there are people out there intentionally instigating Christians against Muslims and vice versa. I deleted the message from my phone. You can decide what to do with yours if you’ve received or are yet to receive it. God bless Nigeria.

This Dumb so-called president has clearly confirmed that he is not a president of Nigeria but of PDP. He has also confirmed that PDP is behind all the Boko Haram insurgencies in the North east. That is why they are killing and abducting people. He has proved that he is biased against one part of the country because their governors are not PDP members. Does every citizen has to be a PDP member before the government provide security for him/her? So the people of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa are being punished because their governors are not PDP members. This is wickedness and inhumanity of the highest order. Gej doesn’t know what it is to be a leader of a Nation.

A plane was about to crash and there were only four parachutes on the plane. Meanwhile there were five people on it. The first person, Lionel Messi, said, “I’m the world’s best footballer right now, I cant die now!” So he took one of the parachutes and left. The second person, Aliko Dangote, said, “I’m the richest man in Africa, I can’t die now, I’m needed in Africa!” So he took the second parachute and left. The third was the Nigerian President and he said, “I’m the smartest President in the world, so I cant
die now, my people still need me!” So he took one and left. Then it was left with the Pope and a little school girl. The Pope said to the little girl, “Take the last one, I’ll sacrifice my life for you.” The little girl replied, “No need for that, There are two parachutes left.” The pope asked her, “How come?” The little girl replied, “The Nigerian President took my school bag.”

Mr Jonathan’s brain is as developed as that of a one year old. Only a moron will utter such gutter statements in this trying time for people you are governing. This man is despicable…he is utterly disgusting..

Whoever become the president is not but. These people called themselves born to rule caused all the problem we re facing in the country. After ruling this country for more than 35yrs their people (Northers) still remain the poorest. Jonathan has not performed well as people expected but the issue is that I have not seen much development among the war prone countries. Nigeria is fighting a serious war which was caused by some element who believed power belonged to them. I wonder why they are desperate for power and for whose interest. Though I did not vote for PDP in last general election because of 1 man from Ota but this time I have that sympathy for Jonathan.

My msg for u Hausa/Fulani is u can finish all ur village we southerners dn’ t care power belong to more than 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria

  • Oweja

“Jonathan blames APC governors for Boko Haram insurgency” Who else? Our president can never be wrong!

  • Abu Rijjal

I do not usually comment on issues in the public fora but i think people should rise up and talk. There is danger in the land. there is a statement credited to the president recognising Gov Jang as chairman of Nigeria’s Governors forum. Now lets get some things clear, 1.the discussion is not about the relevance of that forum, 2. it is not secret that the President is not on good terms with Gov Amaechi, 3. it is not mandatory for him to recognise Gov Amaechi.4. it was clear that Gov Amechi had more votes than Gov Jang. Lets we forget, when governor mimiko was lying about who voted or not, Gov Lamido shut all of them up by listing all those who voted for Gov Amaechi thereby putting paid to all the lies and manipulations. No one came forward to contradict the figures of Gov Lamido. Lets not also forget that when they were to meet with VP Sambo, he arranged the seat alphabetically, which prompted one of the Governors (i think niger) to say, somebody is trying to be smart.

Having said all that, i think it is highly dangerous for the President to give official recognition to Gov Jang when it was clear that he had fewer votes. best case is don’t recognise Gov Amaechi, since as those in your camp have canvassed, the forum has outlived its usefulness (not that the other camp agreed). but to go ahead and recognise the man with the smaller amount of votes shows that 2015 is fraught with danger. everybody should shout about this until the President retracts.

All the other talk about the Govs not being able to win their ward, we can classify as political talk. but not this official recognition of falsehood, this is a recipe for disaster. People please let us treat facts and not start abusing and using foul language.

Another problem is that the President still believes that the APC is connected with the insecurity problem? well, if He is in power and his opponents are causing trouble for him and he has evidence and yet he fails to act with all the powers he has. there is only one option left. your guess is as good as mine. but my guess is that if you cant stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Before anyone starts saying the President is handicapped, 1. that is not true because he (the president does not believe so. Proof, he said when he was reacting to Gov Shettima’s comment, that if the governor think so little of the security forces, he (the President) will give orders and withdraw the troops for one month and let see if the governor will be able to stay in his house.

While the statement is not the expected from the President, it shows that he knows where the buck stops.

  • Kayode from Lagos

Jonathan is just so lucky. The people that will vote for him in 2015 do not comment on Premium Times or any other news medium. If you think Jonatahn is clueless, Majority of Voters in Nigeria do not even know what it means to be cluelss. So it is Jonathan till 2019. APC will have to keep waiting…maybe till year 2200

  • sir Oscie

  • Usman

    this guy is a joke

  • Dr Pat Kolawole Awosan

The president Jonathan presidency, is an outright failure as the bulk stops at his table in the presidency.President Jonathan declared state of emergency since may 2013 and president Jonathan if capable, competent and effective should be in control of those states security-wise not state governors. The point is president Jonathan lacks the experience, competency and intelligence to handle Nigerian affairs.Jonathan may have thought being leader of nations especially a nation like Nigeria is an easy merriment position.President Ebele Jonathan should look at the picture of a hard-working president Barrack Obama of USA, with grey hair working for Americans, twenty-four hours round the clock..
Leadership is not a position whereby, you would be all day drinking Ogogoro-local-dry-gin.Responsible president of a good developing towards prosperity society Holding leadership position is a 24-hours pressuring-hardship job, serving the general public as a steward of the people.

  • TOBBY777

Jonathan will never stop being in the news for negative stuff. When will Jonathan starts talking like the president of the Republic and not as a faithful party thug? What is responsible for the mass killing in Jos? When did N yako decamp to APC? Jonathan has once again demonstrated that he has a very very poor sense of history.

The words of presidents world over brings hope, peace a d more believe in the countty, the words of Jonathan brings strife, division and hatred. When a nation decides to use her last eleven instead of her first eleven these arr some of the results. IT’S NOT THE LOAD THAT BREAKS YOU DOWN, IT’S HOW YOU CARRY IT.

  • felixoti

Yes, there are enough reasons to blame APC. Boko Haram has been in existence before the formation of APC, unfortunately many of the president’s yes-men (Doyin Okupe) will agree with him.
So, who do we blame for lack of power, lack of motorable federal roads, disappearing pension funds, subsidy and SURE-P money, incompetent leadership, deplorable state of our military and other security agencies, incessant kidnapping, increased armed-robbery, closed universities and colleges, uncleaned crude and oil spills, non-payment of staff salaries in our embassies, etc? APC? Boko Haram? Who?

Definitely, not the PDP or the president and his team. No!

  • mike

My president said that B/H are only in the APC states, forgetting his former speech of claiming responsibility that THEY had successfully pushed B/H to the fringes called Borno, Adamawa & Yobe (boarders of Cameroon, chad and Niger republic). AS THE LORD LIVES, ELECTION WILL HOLD IN THOSE STATES
