Boko Haram: Jonathan’s critics unpatriotic – Police Affairs Minister

Mr. Adesiyan said there was verifiable evidence that government was addressing the challenge.

The Minister of Police Affairs, Abdul Adesiyan, has described the people accusing the Federal Government of not doing enough to address current security challenges as uncharitable and lacking in patriotism.

Mr. Adesiyan said this when he received the Ambassador and Head of delegation of the European Union to Nigeria, Michel Arrion, in Abuja on Wednesday.

Mr. Arrion was accompanied by a team from the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.

He said in spite of the evil machinations of the terrorists and their sponsors, the “Nigerian spirit will always overcome’’.

He said it was unfair for the opposition to dwell under the dynamism of the nation’s political system and the freedom of speech guaranteed by Jonathan’s administration to rundown the government.

Mr. Adesiyan said there was verifiable evidence that government was addressing the challenge (posed by the Boko Haram), adding that the country would remain united and indivisible.

He expressed concern over what he termed the recourse by the opposition to negative, rather than objective criticism, all in their desire to mislead the international community about happenings in the country.

The minister called on the international community not to form opinions based on media reports alone but on-the-spot assessments of the situation in Nigeria.

Earlier, Mr. Arrion said they were in the country to explore new ways to collaborate with the Nigerian government on how to curtail the current security challenges.

He said they were also interested in forging an alliance on the supply and improvement of energy which were central to the realisation of development objectives of nations.
