Chibok Schoolgirls: Nigerian government accuses APC governors of failure, inciting protest

“Ninety per cent of those campaigning to bring back Chibok girls are also members of  that same party,” he said.

The failure of governance in three states controlled by the All Progressives Congress, APC, cost Nigeria billions of Naira and yet the opposition party is still instigating anti-government protests, the federal government has said.

The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, stated this on Wednesday while briefing journalists after the weekly meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation.

Responding to questions from journalists, Mr. Maku said the federal government was spending a huge chunk of the nation’s income in maintaining security in the three APC controlled states of Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe.

The three states, most affected by the Boko Haram insurgency, have been under emergency rule since May 2013.

Mr. Maku said despite the huge security spending by the federal government on those states, the majority of protesters accusing the government of not doing enough on security were APC members.

“Today, the federal government is spending huge chunk of its resources in maintaining security especially in the north east; yet they (APC members) constitute over 90 per cent of those protesting against the federal government.

“Look at the entire money we are spending is to maintain security in states controlled by the APC . So why do you come back and start playing politics?

“We are busy spending money to maintain security in those states, what have they done about it? Because 90 per cent of all insurgency is in states controlled by that party.”

The minister then spoke specifically about nationwide protests to demand the release of over 250 school girls kidnapped on April 14 in Chibok, Borno State, by the Boko Haram.

“Ninety per cent of those campaigning to bring back Chibok girls are also members of that same party (APC),” he said.

He also chided a section of the media for “looking the other way” and supporting the perpetrators of the insurgency.

“But the media look the other way. No, I think that honestly if we want this country to grow we must ask the relevant questions. The Chibok girls remain our number one priority, we will never sleep, we will not rest until God brings them out.

“We are the fire fighters, the federal government is a fire fighter. We did not create this insurgency or the structure that led to them, you know where they came from but you are now blaming the fire fighter for the fire,” Mr. Maku said.

The federal government has been criticised for its handling of the Chibok kidnapped girls and insurgency in general.

It took President Jonathan about three weeks to address Nigerians on the kidnap, while he is yet to visit the community or parents of the teenage girls over 6 weeks after the kidnap.

The Boko Haram has killed over 12,000 people since its insurgency began in 2009 with about 2000 killed in 2014 alone.

“He had tried his best in the past and of recent to help in resolving the insurgency through dialogue but was on all occassions frustrated by the Govt… Salkida’s attempt could have actually seen to the release of the abducted Girls” – Shehu Sani

    @Leberan Maku,
So, 90% all those protesting across the globe are APC member kwo? You need injection in the neck to straighten your head… you’r not seeing straight logic!

The States in the NE came under the auspices of APC after defections, prior to that they were solid PDP enclaves. After Olisa Metuh’s whirlwind accusations and lectures on political etiquette, I guess it remains ugly Reuben Abati to weigh-in since obese Doyin Okupe is away in America looking for PR laundromat to clean up Dumbo’s image diapers. Maku should have told us who hired the copy-cat crowd that demonstrated with #ReturnOurGirls with public funds. Maku should have told why despite N1.2trillion blown on Security Vote the past 3yrs, the Boko Boys are still killing Nigerian Army ati civilians like flies. Better still, Maku should tell us why despite murdering 200 Police officers, the Ombatse Cult leader in his Nasarawa enclave still roams the street a free man… Maybe, it’s time the APC sued the sh*t out of these PDP thugs for making frivolous accusations.

Only one out of the 3 states was PDP, that’s Adamawa, the rest were ANPP, and he does have a point that the Boko Haram menace was created by the Borno state ANPP led govt at the time. The new mother of that party is APC, they can trace the root of the problem and help solve it, instead of using it to embarrass the FG, at the same time dragging the whole country through mud.

      • Wähala

Thanks for the enlightenment… Respect !!
However, our points tally on “dragging the whole country through mud” instead of solving a lingering problem. Shaa, it has become a clichè pointing leprous fingers at the APC. We’re not fooled, the world knows they’re doing nothing but stealing us dry!

Thank u Maku–u are now working- Aware -Boko haram started its evil activities under the ANPP government in Yobe state with Buhari as her presidential candidate in 2003-all the state under ANPP which later moved over to APC together with CPC that had already created cells for boko haram to operate–are now using the killing machine of boko haram as a propaganda weapon against the president- there is no way we can live under Sharia law in Nigeria. People that have not studied militant Islamic ideas don’t seem to know that Boko Haram and their blood chilling killing in the north–are simply aimed at having a government which is headed by a Muslim inside aso rock. The killings would end minutes after Buhari becomes president of 9ja–
And u find humans who support BH ideas in their hundreds in APC-period–All d gwabnas in d SW are Muslims-they cannot live under a government that is not headed by a Muslim. Go and read carefully what the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has been saying. They are all sympathetic to Boko Haram; just waiting for them to succeed in sacking the government of Jonathan-then we can move en-mass to my original Niger delta-without parasites like Wahala–begging us to do our dishes 4 us-again–yipeeeeeeeee
@Mumu wahala-read the piece very well–government accused the APC government of total failure in states like Borno among others-where there are no tarred roads-even-yet shettima is yearning to spend billions on nothing—–in a state where he could not provide science ati maths teachers for the students–lastly govt said APC is inciting the masses to protest against Jonathan instead of boko haram-warned u severally to stop chewing that special meat-u no wan hear-

      • Wähala

        @Deri Orbuka aka redeem:
Are there tarred roads in Sou-South yet, Mama Sissy died along Eas-West Road? Didn’t Orubebe swallow the owo meant for the project? Are there tarred road in your enclaves in Bayelsa yet, the Goddluck Jonathan Bridge sank beneath the river beds since last 2yrs while Diezani floats in awoof private jets? Late Azazi nko… did he die on tarred roads? Above all, is your moron not the “Jaja of Abuja”…of Naija?
The Oga@theTop? Get drunk… pour yourself another greedy gulp of ogogoro !!

        • redeem

she died on the road that yr government refused to repair for over 50 yrs–which roads did Zik erect for us in the former eastern region? Even Boro who made first class in Chemistry at Nsukka had to go to court b4 he was admitted to study in that university
D east west road project was first awarded by OBJ in 2006—and like the power holding thing he just stole the money meant for the contract and left-Alex Ekweme was the VP to Shagari name the roads that he constructed in the SS–b4 Buhari locked him up in kirikiri–Is she not married to yr uncle-in d south east–dont worry very soon u will need passport to enable u take a boat ride into bayelsa–as for Rivers–we are going to move all of u to Bonny-Island cause u do not know-how to swim–make sure u all get drowned while attempting to sneak back to aba with your fake tawainese ati china wares–there will be a fence from obigbo to cross rivers state–to fend off parasites ati gluttons like u off———-yipeeeee free at last free at last–no more APC ati their janjaweeds—-

  • Peter2000

What should one expect from a party of janjaweeds. They will stop their hoax when they are tired of it. Till then, keep demonstrating.

  • Ioseb Vissarionovich Dze Jugha

IF THIS FOOLS HAVE NOTHING TO TELL US BETTER KEEP YOUR DIRTY MOUTHS SHUT…..WHY WOULD PDP ALWAYS LIKE TO BLAME GEJ CLUELESSNESS ON APC? DO THE APC GOVERNORS CONTROL THE ARMY?, NAVY? AIRFORCE? POLICE? OR SSS? IS IT NOT GEJ THAT CONTROL THEM???? WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO INCLINE THAT 90% OF PROTESTERS ARE FROM THE SAME PARTY SHOWS THAT ONLY APC MEMBERS HAVE HUMANITARIAN FEELINGS IN THEM WHILE THE PRESIDO IS THEIR DRINKING OGOGORO NOT GIVING A DAMN WITH THE STATUS OF THE GIRLS

    • idama

Mumu stop vomiting rubbish! When your APC governors are sponsoring Boko Haram and encouraging terrorist you blame it on GEJ! It was about 300 girls missing according to boko haram field commander Shettima and today it has drastically reduced to 157! Let them keep killing their citizens my only concern is that the National population commission and the censors board should take note of the dwindling northern population!

      • Muhammad dan dauda

you are the real mumu agbero. Do you think boko haram will spare your southern brothers who are looking for business atmosphere and job vacancies in the north. you must be a fool to think that boko haram is only the problem of the north.

        • idama

Almajiri Educated coward! Proud admirer of boko haram who foolishly attack defenseless citizens! Well let the Jan jawed continue their killing spree of their siblings and by 2016 Bayelsa will be more populated than Borno! Follow follow!

      • Ioseb Vissarionovich Dze Jugha

WHAT IS GEJ DOING ABOUT IT??? HE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT HAVE THE POWER TO ARREST THOSE GOVERNORS, BUT HE DOESN’T GIVE A DAMN, IF TO SAY IT IS HIS OGOGORO TRUCK THAT BOKO BOYS HIJACKED I AM SURE HE WILL GO TO ANY EXTENT TO RETRIVE THAT TEUCK BUT NOW THAT ITS HUMAN BEIGNS HE DIDNT GIVE A DAMN

  • Bamidele

    APC?

  • max

Boko Haram was born and nurtured into monster by APC. The initiator and promoters of boko haram are all members of APC. The governors of boko haram states and the ruling party APC are all failures. It is lack of leadership and absence of governance in those states that led to insurgency.
APC as a party have demonstrated total lack of political imagination to deal with severe security breaches in the state they control. The declaration of state of emergency in the APC states is because the governors there miserably failed to govern and improve standard of living of their people. These states collect free allocation from the federal government and loot it without catering for their people. APC is a party where those that lose their political deposit found succour, they are all bunch of lunatics, low lifers and intellectually vulnerable. APC’s only hope is to hang on the bad image boko haram is creating to clinch power.

  • Mosaku 147

Why is this Maku so daft? Where is this man from for Christ sake? I hate listening to or reading anything he says.he is what the Americans call punkass.

he is a lot smarter than lair mohamed——APC wanted to use the blood stained shirts of the ritual killers to start a revolution–but unknown to them d God we serve said naaaaaaaaaaaaa————der is God oooooh der is God————- that wonderful God that we serve–said naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa to them evil plan against Gej

  • Amaka

Thank you for your message. Please tell the president, his officials and Ijaw people to stop insulting the youth and Nigerians. To whom much is given much is expected. he is one of the highest paid presidents in the world with all the comfort and authority Nigeria can provide yet there is no national youth empowerment programme. A generation of youth are growing up seeing their country pardoning and celebrating criminals and incapable of prosecuting corrupt people. A president is not God. Any occupier should also respect the people that willingly gave him the authority to rule over them. If you call somebody ‘you fool’, he is likely to respond more harshly with ‘you idiot’. I can only respect a president that recognises and respects my right to a good life and values my security and integrity. Not a president that doesn’t give a damn thereby reminding me how stupid I was wasting my vote on him. If I can’t withdraw my vote midway into the tenure of a selfish politician, I have the right to withdraw my respect. RESPECT OR INSULT IS RECIPROCAL. Please tell them!

  • Pheliciti

It would thus be correct to say that it is the failure of governance in Abuja that led to the twin Nyanya bombings. Can this man’s children be proud of him?

  • I think most government officials who delight in taking every opportunity to talk to the media usually forget that their talks are put online and so can be assessed and read anywhere in the world. This speech from Maku can only achieve one purpose internationally, which is a further dip in the image of the country abroad. What purpuse did he really want to achieve with this? If he intendend to embarras his political oppenents he has failed because he did not sustantiate his allegations. No serious minded person will believe him without concrete proof. And if he had meant to improve the image of the country I think he failed miserably. No serious analyst will rate this speech 3 over 10. What a pity.

  • clairvoyance

As for the protest you claim APC sponsors against your government, it shows they will stand by Nigerians and Nigeria in her darkest hour. And for blaming those governors and APC for sponsoring the insurgency may I remind you that Senator Ali Ndume is a member of ur party PDP caught by ur security forces hands in the till, now out of the 3 governors in the NE one defected from ur party. So why the blackmail against APC n all the money u claimed to have spent on this insurgency what is the result, it rather grew worse. Clueless people.

  • Muhammad dan dauda

God deliver Nigeria from this utter confusion that is really helping the terrorist. Only God knows what will happen after 2015. If these confusions continue innocent souls will suffer. Oh Allah get us out of these problems.

  • Dr Pat Kolawole Awosan

The incapable, clueless, moron, kindergarten, ineffective and ineptitude president Ebele Jonathan, led FGN sounds very naive,non-intelligent and low thinking bunch in being unable to drawing out full understanding of what his duties entail when he sworn the oath of office as Nigeria president.
Ebele Jonathan had thought being Nigerian president was a joke and just for merriment but he did not study the pros and cons of holding the office of Nigeria president, the post he finds difficult to perform its extensive functions now.
Ebele Jonathan should go to USA for in-training for one month to learn the rudimentary of how to run a productive democratic governance, from president Barrack Obama, who was a Chicago-state senator and first term Federal senator, before he ran for office as American president. And Obama has proven to be a capable, competent and highly intelligent transparent president of America.

  • Femi

Did Yar’dua create the Niger delta militancy? Did he ever pass the buck? These people just don’t get it. They will never change.

  • BlackieUmukoro

To hell with protesters and APC. Soldiers are being ambushed and killed everyday, the protesters and their wicked sponsors will never talk about that. Bastards
