The deceased, aged 58, died on Sunday in an auto accident on the Bill Clinton Drive, Airport Road, Abuja.

Prominent Nigerians from within and outside the country on Wednesday participated in the three-day “Fidda’u” prayer session in honour of Vice President Namadi Sambo’s younger brother, Sabo Sambo.

The deceased, aged 58, died on Sunday in an auto accident on the Bill Clinton Drive, Airport Road, Abuja.

The session, conducted at the residence of the deceased at Wuse 2, Abuja, was led by the Chief Imam of Abuja National Mosque, Musa Muhammed, and other clerics.

They prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed and also for Allah’s mercies and blessings to be showered on those that he left behind.

Prayers were also offered for continued peace, progress and development of the country.

The session was graced by several dignitaries, including former military dictator, Ibrahim Babangida; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; and the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ahmed Mu’azu.

Among the governors at the event were Ramalan Yero (Kaduna), Idris Wada (Kogi) and Babangida Aliyu of Niger.

Members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), national and state assemblies, service chiefs, Inspector-General of Police, traditional rulers, captains of industry and hundreds of sympathisers participated in the prayers.

The presidency had on Tuesday announced the cancellation of this week’s meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation, FEC, which would have held on Wednesday, to allow members attend the prayer for the late Sambo.

Some of the sympathisers, including former Chairman of the anti-graft agency, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu, and Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger, who spoke to journalists, paid tributes to the deceased.

Vice President Sambo, being the chief mourner, has been receiving sympathisers from across the country and beyond at his official residence, Aguda House, Presidential Villa, Abuja, since Sunday.

Late Sambo left behind his wife, Hajiya Jummai, and three daughters.
