The umbrella organization of all Christians in Nigeria asks its members to pray for the peace, unity and progress of the country.
Worried about the security challenges confronting Nigeria, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has asked its members to fast and pray on Friday for peace, unity and progress of the country.
This is contained in a statement by the National President of CAN, Ayo Oritsejafor, on Wednesday.
It is the second time the body of Christians in Nigeria would call for fasting and prayer over the nation’s security challenges.
CAN had asked its members across the country, on December 27 last year, to fast and pray against terrorist acts in preparation for the New Year.
There has been an upsurge in the cases of bombing and abduction of young school children, particularly in the North Eastern part of the country.
On Monday last week, a motor park in Nyanya, a suburb of Abuja was bombed by the dreaded Boko Haram sect killing about 75 people and injuring about 120 others. The same day, over 200 female students of a secondary school in Chibok, Borno State were abducted though about 44 have regained their freedom.
Mr. Oritsejafor, who is the General Overseer of the World of Life Church, Warri, Delta State, decried the high spate of bombing and general insecurity in the nation, saying only supplication to God could salvage Nigeria, hence the call for fasting and prayer.
He asked Nigerians to pray for the quick recovery of those injured during the explosion in Nyanya and receiving treatments at different hospitals in the federal capital.
The clergyman also pleaded with Nigerians to pray fervently for the release of the remaining abducted girls from the hands of their abductors.
He also called for prayer for the general peace of the country and for the repentance of the “wicked people who are bent on creating tension in the country.”
