The women say the abduction violates the girls’ human rights.
Some women in Borno State and the Borno chapter of a women’s right group, The Women, Peace and Security Network, on Tuesday condemned the abduction of girls from Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State.
A statement by Haauwa Biu, who acted as the spokesperson of both the Borno women and the Rights group, said that the abduction violates the girls’ human rights.
She also said that the act is a crime against humanity, prohibited under the international humanitarian law.
The Women, Peace and Security Network also said the abduction totally affects Nigeria’s effort towards enhancement of the girl child education and development.
Ms. Biu, while commiserating with parents of the girls and victims of the incessant killings in the state, called on the terrorists to lay down their arms and release those in their custody.
She also assured the terrorists of support and rehabilitation if the need arises.
The women commended the government and security agencies in their fight against terrorism, but appealed for adequate security in all schools to ensure a safe learning environment.
