Nigeria to host African Internet Forum

The forum is part of a global 10-year review of the World Summit on the Information Society, WSIS+10.

Nigeria will host the 3rd African Internet Governance Forum, AfIGF, in Abuja to consider and adopt best ways to improve internet services and access in the continent.

The secretariat of the forum at the UN Economic Commission for Africa, ECA, in Addis Ababa, said on Tuesday that the 3rd AfIGF will hold from July 10 to 12.

The forum is part of a global 10-year review of the World Summit on the Information Society, WSIS+10.

The African internet governance space had been active in the lead up to the World Summit on Information Society, WSIS, in 2005, when the Internet Governance Forum was established.

The secretariat said in a statement that the forum would make recommendations for consideration and adoption by African governments and stakeholders on best ways to improve Internet services and access.

ECA is the host of the secretariat of the African Internet Governance Forum with the African Union Commission as a member.

Egypt hosted the first AfIGF between October 2 and 4, 2012, while Kenya hosted the second between September 23 and 26, 2013.
