Ogun Magistrate killer laid siege for 24 hours before attack – victim’s husband

The attacker has been charged for murder.

A man who knifed his retired magistrate boss in Ogun State to death after being fired for stealing her jewelleries, phones, and other valuables, laid siege on the judge’s property for a full day before striking, the victim’s husband has narrated.

The husband of slain retired magistrate, Wole Timehin, said the assailant confessed that he hid himself in the gatehouse overnight which was unknown to the family.

“Unknown to us, the boy hid in the gate house overnight, before he struck the following day having monitored our movement and knowing that, my wife remained the only person at home after I have gone out,” he said.

His wife, Olufunmilayo Timehin, was attacked on March 28 by a 21-year-old man, named David, who worked for the family as a house help.

The man, who has confessed to the crime and has been charged for murder, had been sacked by the retired magistrate for stealing but few days later sneaked into the house and attacked his former boss with machete.

The attacker he had not been paid his salary and he needed money to leave the job. He was arrested after stealing but was released on the intervention of the late magistrate who then fired him.Mr. Timehin explained that his family was not owing the suspect any salary as he allegedly claimed, but rather was always pampered by the family.

“We never owed him any salary, rather we do pamper him and make him more comfortable, we provide conducive environment for him, as you can see the self-contained room we allocated to him with all needed facilities,” the widower said.

He said that even after he was arrested for stealing, the family pleaded for his release so that he would not end up in jail, and so that he would not end up being hardened in prison and return to the society as a hardened criminal.
“We counselled him severally, but we never knew he was a devil in human skin. Is it a wrong thing to have saved him from ending up in prisons,” Mr. Timehin said.

The widower who appeared to still be in shock over the brutal murder of his wife, said he would continue to miss his spouse, stating that since the demise he was yet to come to terms.

“My wife was a mother, I’m going to miss her, no day passes I will not remember her. It’s unfortunate it has to be like this. When I look around in our bedroom and can’t find her I felt worried,” he lamented.

He used the opportunity to advise those who engage services of house help in ensuring they know their background before employing them, stressing that the grown up house helps are even more dangerous.

On burial arrangement, he disclosed that the family will meet in the next few days, after the arrival of one of their children, who is Medical Doctor abroad.

Meanwhile, the slain retired magistrate was survived by the husband and two sons, Olumide, a Biochemist and Seun, a medical doctor.
