Okonjo-Iweala denies resigning from Jonathan’s cabinet

Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala says she is still the Minister of Finance
The Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has denied a report that she tendered a letter of resignation to the president.

This is contained in a statement signed by Paul Nwabuikwu, Special Adviser on Media to the Minister, on Friday in Abuja.

“It has come to our attention that a story is circulating online about the purported resignation of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this story is not true. The Coordinating Minister is still in her position,” it said.

The minister  assured Nigerians that the President Goodluck Jonathan administration is committed to the continuation of the current economic policies and the maintenance of macroeconomic stability through tight fiscal and monetary policies.

    Wish this was true tho

    • Josh

Why do you wish that she resigns? This is a woman that is tirelessly working to set the country on the right path.

      • Efe1

My God I don’t what to ask what is a right path in your context

  • max

That is their wish even if she wants to resign let Her go there are more Nigerians as qualified like her even more.

  • Josh

Nigerians are definitely behind her. Only the bad
belle people will wish that she resign so that they can plunder the treasury.

    • Mohstone

Plunder the treasury ??? It seems you are still sleeping. What form or size of plundering are you talking about that we have not seen in this administration??? Was she not there during the subsidy scam??? What about the recent plunder in NNPC ??? She also concur with Sanusi that indeed $10.8 billion had not been remitted and un-accounted for. My brother she is not protecting anything there. Infact, she is aiding and abetting it.

Have you all seen the picture of Mallam Nasir El Rufai, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and your very own Sowore of SaharaReporters? That picture speaks a million words. Now we know who bought Sowore! When the rumor started circulating I knew that Sowore and his pay master Mallam Nasir El Rufai were now so desperate and any rumor they can spread against OkonjoIweala they will spread. But they have failed again and will continue to fail. Sowore is a fraud and a disgrace!

    • emmanuel

We all took a walk from Sahara Teporters when it became obvious that Sowore has been heavily compromised.

Go check the number of visitors there compared to 5 years ago.

      • absam777

Are you talking about Saharareporters that even Jonathan said he cannot do without checking every day? The fear of Saharareporter is the beginning of the end of a corrupt government such as we presently have in Nigeria.

  • arewethishopeless

Ngozi please wake up! Open your eyes.

In all your experience, have you ever seen the congregation of so many criminals/thieves in one government. Are you not uncomfortable with devilish men and women around you who offer nothing but looting and their insatiable thirst for blood? Are you ok working with the likes of Adoke, Alison, Wike and all the evil worshippers of the GEJ clan? So much confusion, spite, blood, hatred, division in the land. Is this normal for you?

Leave now, save yourself and your soul. Before it is too late …

    • Efe1

She is devilish so why will she feel uncomfortable?

      • emmanuel

She is one million times better than your Hausa Fulani muslim lots put together.

        Barawo!

        • Joseph

No be Igbo? 419 is in her DNA.

        • Efe1

Is it because she has thick fat cheeks?

    • paul preston

she will not resign she knows more than any of you who the real thieves are ie in apc, meanwhile what do say of the sacking of the lousy sanusi?

  • Comfortkay

There is nothing good in the Kindergarten President of Nigeria .
The earlier the better for Dr Okonjo-Iweala to resign, let us call a spade a spade she is having a tough time with the looters and the National Assembly, they have no respect for her.

  • Bamidele

As coordinating minister, i wonder what she will consider her main achievement at the end of her tenor. The Sure p programme has turned out to be a colossal failure, electricity has become worse than any other time in Nigerian history, corruption has assumed a monumental dimension, and the level of insecurity in the land is unprecedented. Yet she feels comfortable and can still continue to work with such government.
At the moment, I challenge any government official to come up with the unemployment figure in the country – no one is interested. Nara exchange rate has gone over the roof, several manufacturing companies have closed down while others have relocated to neighbouring countries, yet no official is bothered.
No one should be deceived, they are all together.

    • Dan maikoko

Her macroeconomic indicators are sound, so forget about your joblessness or lack of power and roads. These are not the indicators she is expected to use.

      • Mohstone

You can only deceive yourself which such indicators. As far as we are concerned they have not translated to anything meaningful to the common man.

  • goodygoody

pardon me if I say Nigerians are not capable of governing themselves!
