The casualty figure is yet to be ascertained
Gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram in the early hours of Monday attacked Bama town, 135km from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.
According to residents of the state whose relatives in Bama sent distress calls before dawn, the attackers stormed the town at about 4 a.m.
The casualty figure is yet to be ascertained as neither the police nor the military has come up with a statement.
“Many may have been killed because the attack was launched when the residents were fast asleep,” a Maiduguri resident whose relative contacted him from Bama said.
Wednesday’s attack comes less than 24 hours after the presidency assured Nigerians that the military was winning the war against the Boko Haram.
