The athlete is U.S. based
An American-based Nigerian athlete, Stephen Mozia, has set a new mark in the men’s shot put (indoor) with a throw of 20.52m at the Ithaca Cornell Upstate Challenge.
Mozia, a junior at Cornell University, is regarded as one of the top throwers in the country and competed at the Indoor and Outdoor National Championships as a sophomore.
The 20-year old has been tipped to make Nigeria proud at the forthcoming World Indoor Championships in Poland and Commonwealth Games by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) which is delighted by his performance.
He also competes in the hammer and discus events.
As a freshman in high school, Mozia started as a slow, uncoordinated sprinter but later capped off his senior year with being a two-time All American in the shot put and had a dominant season at discus as well.
