Rivers PDM denies merging with APC

The APC in Rivers State had claimed to have swallowed the PDM

The chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Movement, PDM, in the 23 local government areas of Rivers State, have denied claims that the entire party structure in the state has fused into the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Rivers State Chapter of the APC had said in a statement that the state chapter of the PDM and Princewill Political Associates, PPA, had joined its fold. The statement titled, “APC has swallowed PPA and PDM,” was signed by Chukwuemeka Eze, the media aide to APC Chairman in Rivers State, Davies Ikanya.

It said the carnival-like ceremony held at the State Secretariat of APC situated along Forces Avenue, old GRA, Port Harcourt, marked the formal end and collapsing of PPA and Rivers PDM structures into the APC.

However, in a statement, the PDM chairmen under the aegis of PDM Local Government Party Chairmen Forum, on Thursday said they never considered or took any decision to merge with the APC.

“We hereby state categorically that the purported merging story is untrue, totally unfounded, baseless, mischievous, an arrant nonsense and a figment of the writer’s imagination geared towards misleading the general public,” they said in the statement signed by their chairman, Tamunotonye Lily.

The chairmen asked members of the PDM to disregard the claim and remain steadfast in their mobilization and sensitization efforts in the ongoing membership registration exercise and the coming congresses.

They also asked the APC to call Mr. Eze to order, alleging that his stock in trade was “to peddle lies and misinform the general public and Rivers people in particular.”
