20 of 24 Kwara lawmakers defect to APC

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara

Twenty of 24 lawmakers in the Kwara state House of Assembly who were elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party have defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Speaker of the Assembly, Rasak Atunwa announced the defection at plenary a while ago.

The defection was not unexpected. The state governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed as well as his political godfather, Bukola Saraki, had earlier defected to the APC.

Earlier, on January 8, 27 of the 30 members of the Sokoto State House of Assembly defected to the APC from the PDP.

The lawmakers defected shortly after the state governor, Aliyu Wamakko, joined four other governors to move from the PDP to the APC.

Big Question looking for an Answer..please help me. ‘ when an Elected political office holder under political party Defected to another political party, which party is the original owner of such seat?

    • MUSTASH

The seat of a legislator is not for the party but for the individual that was elected. This is the reason that when a legislator dies his party does not appoint another person to replace him but a bye-election is conducted. But in the case of the president or the governor, the seat belongs to the party because when a governor or president dies, he is replaced by the party.

      • Omo Odua

The paerty does not replce a governor or President, rather, his/her deputy and vice takes over. As in the case of Yuguda then, or Wamako now, if Yuguda had passed away at that time (when his deputy refuse to follow him to pdp), the deputy would have become the governor (who was at ANPP then).

    • Aremu

Yuguda was elected on the platform of ANPP, he later jumped boat to PDP and his SEAT was NOT declared VACANT.So also Musliu Obanikoro,Ogunlewe, Dosumu etc left AD for PDP they ALL RETAINED their seats. Why now CRYING for being UNABLE to swallow the BITTER PILL.

@ Favnat John … When a woman marries a man, divorce him and go ahead to marry another man, who own the woman??? Defection is part of politics except that the way it is being done in Nigeria is beyond natural understanding.
