BREAKING: Explosion rocks Maiduguri, many feared killed, injured

A car bomb, suspected to have been detonated by a suicide bomber, has exploded in a densely populated commercial area of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital in northeast Nigeria, PREMIUM TIMES reports.

The explosion occurred about 200 meters away from where our reporter was sitting in a car with a friend. This happened around 1:30pm, at an area of the town called the Post Office neighborhood, which is where a large detachment of the military has as its outpost, famously called JTF Sector 4.

PREMIUM TIMES reporter said, amidst the confusion, soldiers responded to the bomb by shooting sporadically. He also reported that the bomb appeared to have damaged many cars, and wounded many people leaving them with blood-stained faces.

In the confusion after the bomb, the city recorded many collisions as cars ran into each other when drivers tried to escape from the scene.

The streets were a chaos of images like wailing woman raising her hands above her head was shouting “I am finished, I am finished” and young people seeking help from passersby to take relations to the hospital.

The death casualty could not be ascertained immediately.
