Abuja administration raids Zone 4 Bureau de Change operators

Abuja Environmental Protection Board, AEPB

Business activities restricted to a garden in the area

The Abuja Environmental Protection Board, AEPB, on Saturday in Abuja raided the popular Ladi Kwali junction, which leads to the Sheraton Hotel at Wuse Zone 4.

The area is known for the foreign currency dealers who transact their business there.

The AEPB removed several kiosks and make-shift shops belonging to food vendors and hawkers and sent all packing, with strict instructions to restrict their activities to the garden within the area.

The AEPB’s Media Liaison Officer, Samuel Musa, said the exercise was in line with the board’s drive towards achieving a clean and habitable FCT.

He said the task of ensuring the immediate removal of people and property considered to be nuisances within the federal capital city was a continuous one.

Mr. Musa said the board had received encouraging feedback from Abuja residents.

“Modern cities are well planned and maintained for proper habitation, and they do not give room for indiscriminate hawking of wares. This exercise is in line with our resolve to ensure that nuisances within the FCT are seriously taken care of to maintain the hygiene and serenity of the city. The feedback we get from Abuja residents is actually encouraging, indicating that residents are happy with our modest efforts to sanitise the city, and we will maintain the momentum,” the board spokesperson said.
