Presidency tasks Nigerian communities on MDG projects

Precious Gbeneol asked communities to judiciously use projects.

The Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Precious Gbeneol, has appealed to communities to make judicious use of funds released to them for execution of projects.

Ms. Gbeneol, who made the appeal in Abuja on Friday at a dinner, said that the implementation of the projects would enhance development and boost the economy of the country.

“I am worried and disturbed about the way some of the communities handle projects given to them by the Federal Government.

“Although there are some communities that are really working hard, but for those who are not, they should start implementing the projects given to them.

“The essence of the project is to enhance their knowledge in a particular skill and to reduce poverty in the country,’’ she said.

She said the Federal Government was committed to ensure that the country achieves the goals by 2015.

Ms. Gbeneol said progress had been made in all the goals, noting that before the 2015 deadline, Nigeria would achieve goals four and five, reducing child mortality and improving maternal health, respectively.

She said that N4 trillion was needed annually to fund the MDGs, adding that N3 trillion naira was spent in 2012 to implement MDGs projects.
