ASUU Strike: I chat with my students on social media, VC says

ASUU Strike: I chat with my students on social media, VC says

Vice Chancellor harps on importance of social media.

The Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education, TASUED, Ijebu-Ode, Oluyemi Obilade, has disclosed that forty of the school’s administrative staff would be sent abroad for re-training, as part of the institution’s policy on capacity building. She also said she chats with students of the university on social media about happenings in the school including the ongoing nationwide strike by lecturers, ASUU.

Ms. Obilade made the disclosure on Monday when the executives of the Association of Nigerian Universities Professional Administrators, ANUPA, paid a courtesy visit at her office, ahead of the association’s one-day retreat at the school.

She stated that for any establishment to make headway and be successful, administrators could not be left behind, adding that any chief executive officer who ignored administrators does that at his or her own peril.

The Vice-Chancellor also used the occasion to appreciate the use and importance of social media and urged the association to be internet compliant in order to move with global trends.

According to her, social media has a lot of advantages, particularly in the areas of information gathering and sharing. She noted that thanks to the internet and social media, she has had tremendous opportunity to talk and share information with students of the university; a development which, she said, has contributed to her performances.

“I can tell you that some of our students chat with me through the social media, where we share information which help the institution. Recently, many of them have been talking to me about the ASSU strike, trying to get updates. They are eager to know when they will return to school,” she said.

The National President of the Association, Samuel Mwansat, thanked the University for hosting the retreat. He said that records showed that administrators in the institution have enjoyed a cordial relationship with the authorities.

He stated that the Association would hold it next annual conference next month in Ibadan, Oyo State.
