PDP now has 13 aspirants for the Anambra election.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, screening panel chaired by Aminu Wali has disqualified four Anambra governorship aspirants over tax and other sundry issues.
Sources in the party said those disqualified are Tony Nwoye, Sylvester Okonkwo, Ugochukwu Okeke and Damian Ahamaefula Onwuanyim. The four men can appeal their disqualification on or before Friday.
With the disqualification, 13 aspirants are left in the race for the PDP ticket, unless the disqualification is upturned by the appeal panel.
When contacted on the disqualification, PDP spokesman, Tony Okeke, claimed nobody has been disqualified as they still have to appear before the Appeal Panel on Saturday.
“It is only then that you can talk about disqualification if they don’t scale through,” he said.
He said the appeal panel was supposed to sit on Friday but because of the Sallah holiday, it was shifted to Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Deputy National Chairman of PDP, Chibudom Nwuche, on Tuesday led the National Working Committee members and the Anambra State governorship aspirants to meet with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over the chairmanship of the party in the state. While INEC recognises Ejike Oguebego, an associate of Andy Ubah, one of the aspirants, as chairman, the PDP recognises Ken Emeakayi.
The delegates reportedly went there with court papers to justify their claim that Mr. Oguebego was not the authentic chairman.
Sources said officials of INEC’s Legal Unit insisted at the meeting that they were not aware of the court papers.
