The party also passed a vote of confidence on PDP National Chairman.
The Anambra State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called for the amendment of the party’s constitution during its proposed mini National Convention to give President Goodluck Jonathan its presidential ticket for the 2015 election.
The chapter has also expressed its desire to support the immediate past National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, to return as the sole candidate for the position from Anambra State to which the post is zoned.
It also passed a vote of confidence on the party’s National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur.
These are some of the resolutions of the chapter at an extra-ordinary meeting held in Abuja and presented to the National Working Committee, NWC.
The meeting was attended by the leaders of the 326 wards, local governments and State Executive Committee of the party.
These formed part of the resolutions reached at an extra-ordinary meeting by the leadership of the 326 wards, local governments and the State Executive Committee of the PDP which was presented to its National Working Committee (NWC) at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja on Tuesday.
The Anambra PDP chairman, Ken Emeakayi, who spoke to journalists after presenting the resolutions to the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Tony Okeke, said it will not only support Mr. Jonathan for another term but wants automatic ticket for “performing” PDP governors, and members of the national and state assemblies, as a way to reduce friction in the build up to the elections.
“We urge President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, to accept to run for a second term and we hereby adopt him as our candidate for the 2015 presidential elections.
“That we recommend the further amendment of the PDP Constitution 2012 (as amended) in the forthcoming PDP National Convention to allow for the right of first refusal (automatic ticket) as PDP candidates, to serving and performing PDP, president, governors, national and state assembly members, to reduce infighting associated with our party primary elections,” the chairman said.
