Muslim Group seeks separate camps for male, female NYSC members

The JNI Secretary General said this in Kaduna.

The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has called on the management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to stop mixing males and females during physical exercises at its orientation camps for corps members.

The group, an umbrella organisation for Islamic groups in Northern Nigeria, said mixing males and females violates Islamic tenets and called on the authorities concerned to put members of different sex in different camps.

The JNI Secretary General, Khalid Abubakar, said this at the end of a peace and unity conference for Muslim scholars in Kaduna State on Thursday in preparation for the annual Ramadan lecture expected to kick off at the weekend.

Mr. Abubakar called on the NYSC to respect the decency and chastity of female corps members during physical exercises and other activities at the orientation camps, and provide alternative camps for female Muslim corps members.

This is not really a Muslim Group as you are trying to deceptively put it. I say this because I am certain that Muslims especially from other parts of our country had no input. This is a Northern Muslim Hausa-Fulani DEMAND, IN ADDITION TO ALL THAT THEY ARE ASKING FOR UNDER BOKO HARAM. No doubt the Northern Muslim Hausa-Fulani are the most divisive and most polarizing ethno political-religious block in Nigeria. If these are the things they want, why are they so afraid of a Sovereign National Conference where matters of this nature will be ironed out and constitutionally settled. They cannot have their cake and eat it.

well my take is this. if it was okay for both male and muslim female students to be in the same classroom for 4 or five years together, why cant they be together just for ONE MONTH?!. Luckily, the NYSC is not COMPULSORY. THERE IS THIS little CLAUSE called EXEMPTION which anyone who so desires can take advantage of. there are more important issues on the front burner so lets move on and while allowing others to exhale impunity air that is about choking them.

country cannot be run solely for the satisfaction of the Northern Muslim Hausa-Fulani as they are doing all they can to force it including the unconstitutional implementation of Sharia in Northern Muslim Hausa-Fulani States. There is need for a Sovereign National Conference that will discuss how all the different interest groups in the country can get what they want. I am particularly pained to remember how the Northern Muslim Hausa-Fulani went on riot in 2002 killing innocent Nigerians and destroying their properties simply because they are against Ben Bruce of Silverbird staging his Miss World Beauty Pageant in Nigeria despite the fact that there was nothing unconstitutional about staging the event in Nigeria. As I write this comment a young Nigerian female Ms Isoma Daniel (then of Thisday Newspaper) is still living in exile out fear of being killed by Northern Muslim Hausa-Fulani Muslims who pronounced Fatwa on her for her completely lawful comments on the incident. The man that pronounced the unconstitutional fatwa on her is living comfortably in Nigeria with stolen wealth and with many wives one of which was less than ten years old when he married her. Now they are insisting that the operations of the NYSC scheme must be changed to suit their narrow minded understanding of Islam. To be best of my knowledge there is nothing unconstitutional in the operations of the NYSC scheme as at today. I have no problems with their insistence that certain aspects of the operations of the scheme be changed. After all some say that change is the only thing permanent in life, but they must follow due process and stop their lawless gross violations of provisions of our constitution. Let’s meet at the Sovereign National Conference.
