Amaechi Responds: Obuah, others are favour-seeking mischief-makers

Former President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Rotimi Amaechi... in Port Harcourt [file]

Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has described a delegation of members of the Peoples Democratic Party from Rivers State who visited the President on Thursday as comprising some mischief-makers whose political relevance depends on the amount of crises they are able to foment between him and the presidency.

The delegation, led by factional chairman Felix Obuah, had, while on a visit to President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, said  it was in total support of the suspension of Mr. Amaechi, and accused the governor of already working with the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC.

The party leaders also apologised to the president for the governor’s alleged opposition-like actions, which they described as ‘shameful.’

But speaking to PREMIUM TIMES through the state commissioner for Information, Ibim Semenitari, the governor said it was clear that the factional chairman of the PDP in the state, Felix Obuah, and some members of his team were mischief-makers desperate to continue to poison the president’s mind against him.

Mrs. Semenitari said, “We really do not want to respond to mischief-makers who believe the only way they can remain relevant is to continue to sow seeds of discord between the governor and the president.

“Of course, they will continue to fail because the president was in Port Harcourt last week and the governor was at the airport to receive him. The presidency also recently issued a statement to say there is no crisis between the president and the governor. So, why are mischief-makers so desperate to set the president against the governor?”

“As far as we are concerned, they are merely grandstanding. They are wasting their time and this governor will not waste his time responding to them.

“We do not want to bother because we are sure the president has seen through their antics. The president is wiser and he knows this people are only scrambling for favours and political relevance.”

Describing Mr. Obuah and his team as a tiny faction of the larger PDP in Rivers, the commissioner said the delegation misrepresented itself by claiming it comprised of Rivers PDP leaders.

“If they are PDP leaders, how come elected leaders from the Senate, House of Representatives and the House of Assembly were not part of their team? Even Obuah has no locus to parade himself as the state PDP chairman because PDP members are in court contesting his position. He did not participate in the congress that elected Godspower Ake as chairman of our party. He was even abroad at the time.”

Mrs. Semenitari denied the claim by the delegation that Mr. Amaechi had already joined the All Progressives Congress, saying the governor remained a loyal member of the PDP.

“The governor has not changed party,” she said. “He remains a loyal PDP man and has respect for the party and the president. He believes that ultimately, the party will do the right thing. There is no cause for alarm.”

LAMENTATIONS OF AMAECHI D-TRAITOR: Ibim thank you, you have said it all. I am very relieved. You are my special one; yet I will not follow the bad adulterous example of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. If not for Judith, I would have asked you to marry me. Can you imagine that they went as far as telling the President that I am a very selfish person? I have searched myself thoroughly to see if there is any selfishness in me; I found none. How can they say I am an extremely arrogant, power seeking, selfish and self centered dictator? Imagine that Commissioner of Police calling me a dictator. I will never forgive him. In fact, I have asked my Oga at the top, Hon Aminu Tambuwaal to remove him through a motion or resolution of the House of Representatives. Even if I am sometimes a dictator, I know I am not selfish. How can I be selfish? Look at the Bombardier Super Executive jet I bought for myself and family for over $60million (about N9.9Billion). If I am selfish as they are saying I would have restricted the use of that Jet to my wife, my children and myself. But I have used that Jet at various times to carry (free of charge) Hon. Aminu Tambuwaal, Governor Sule Lamido, Governor Rabiu Kwankwanso, Governor Babangida Aliyu, Mallam Adamu Ciroma, Mallam Shehu Sani, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, IBB, Dr. Ango Abdulahi, Dr Junaid Mohammed, Alhaji Maitama Sule, Alhaji Lawal Kaita; in fact, I carried so many Imams, Alhaji’s and Emirs that I can’t even remember all their names. If I did all these, which is true, how then can people say I am selfish? Is it because I have not used my personal Bombardier Jet to carry Chief Edwin Clark?

It is a pity that you and Ms Ibim Seminitari are unable to read the handwriting on the wall proclaiming Amaechi’s political doom in Rivers State and the South-South. You are still talking about elected officers most of whom were unilaterally picked by Amaechi the dictator to do his bidding. You must come to know that the delegation comprised mainly of persons who are much higher in the political hierarchy of Rivers State than all of the so called elected officers you are talking about. Here in the delegation is represented the political leaders and elders in Rivers State.
